FI proposed to me with his grandmothers ring, but we decided to get the diamond remounted in something more my taste. We still have the original band, and I was thinking about getting it mounted with FIs birthstone, an amethyst, to make it something to wear on special occasions. Some quick googling on loose amethysts has provided 1ct stones for like $6 or less... can this possibly be true? Does anyone know a reliable site to look for gemstones? I know I should call my jeweler, but I like to get most of my research done before I purchase.
