Save the Dates..

Hi Ladies,

I love the idea of a save the date magnet -- so in an effort to save some money I was looking online at "magnetstreet.com"  has anyone used this site for theirs?? Is $149 for 100 a good deal or should I keep looking? haha they also have a 20% off promo for the next week that i'd like to take advantage of if its a good deal!

Also.. how far in advance did you send out your save the dates??

Thanks ladies!

Re: Save the Dates..

  • Hello, my save the date wasn't magnetic, so I'm not sure if that's a good deal or not. However, I believe you send them out 6 months before your wedding date.

  • I don't have any experience with magnastreet although I see they are highly recommended on the boards. I got magnet "STD"'s but used them as St. Patrick's Day "cards" from vistaprint with a groupon/living social deal. I think I got 80 of them and only paid the $17 (groupon) plus $10 (living social) in actual cost for the deals, and then had to pay shipping which I believe totaled around $20 for both orders. I had to throw in some totes and notepads to not loose any of the groupon/deal amount I had purchased. I was pretty excited and have priced out actual STD's and plan to use vistaprint for them.

And they go out 6-9 months before the wedding. Good luck!

  • I used agiftfulheart.com and paid about $100 for $100 of them. I loved them, they came out perfect! While doing my research I noticed magnet street was just a hair bit pricer then the site I used but i would say 100 to 150 is about the price your going to pay for 100 magnets.  Good luck!

  • personally if you are crafty then you may be able to design something yourself and order them thru vistaprint.  there are great deals on groupon and living social all the time.  you can also print them and make them a magnet.  if you are not crafty then magnet street is really good.  i think they are a bit on the expensive side but they are really pretty and good quality.

  • I used Magnet Street and had zero issues!  I love that you can customize everything including fonts and colors.  I paid about $90 for 75 so definitely wait for the 20%.  They even sent a few extra which was perfect since I really needed about 80.  Shipping was fast, quality was great, I'd recommend them.  I sent them out about 6.5 months before my wedding.

I also used Vistaprint and paid maybe $15 for 50 small & 20 large magnets. We designed them ourselves & uploaded the images. It was great for us!
  • the girls on here recommended magnetstreet to me and I had a fantastic experience with them.

We even changed ours two times through the assistance with their graphic designers and they were a dream to work with.  Great company, I would definitely give them business again.
  • YAY!!
thanks everyone so much! you have been a great help!!! I'm about 11 months out right now so i'm a little early to send out my save the dates HOWEVER, I want to order them with the 20% discount and maybe wait a little bit to actually send them out.  I'm also very happy to hear that buttrflyah they sent you a few extra copies! Did you ask for them or was it a pleasant surprise? haha i think ill need about 100 --- but it wouldn't hurt to have a coulpe of extras!!

buttrflyah - did u get a proof first before the order or how did that work ?

  • I used Magnet Street as well and used a coupon.  We sent them out about 8 months prior, which was enough time since our wedding is Labor Day weekend and we wanted to give people enough notice, esp so they could book hotel rooms.  I found Magnet Street very easy to work with and I was able to order a proof first- I just had to pay the shipping for it (I want to say it was around $5-6?).  We spent the extra money to have backers printed up with additional info, because even though we did the "large" size magnets they are still kind of small and come in tiny envelopes- doing the backer added some bulk and got us a bigger size envelope to mail out (no extra postage was neccessary, BTW).  We also had our return address printed on the envelopes to save time.

I highly recommend using Magnet Street, but as PPs have said, VistaPrint is also a good option if you want to design your own.  I'm actually using them to have Thank You cards done up, so I'll have more input on VP after I receive them.

  • Bella - they just sent the extras without asking.  You customize everything yourself on the site and then place your order.  You see a "proof" online and have to signoff on it before it goes to production.

  • Magnetstreet's magnets are great quality (I have tons of samples from different companies and their quality was the best) and they have lots of cute designs.  The price is reasonable if you're not interested in going the DIY route (I was going to use them until I decided to DIY them instead).  Like PP's mentioned, Vistaprint is a great option if you want to design it yourself (or have someone you know design it) but they also have tons of predesigned ones of their site that are really pretty!  I ended up using vistaprint, and I paid around $10 or so for 100 of them.

For sending them out, it really depends on where your guests are. If you have a lot of out of town guests, you should send it out earlier (10-12 months) so that they can make their travel arrangements.  We only have 3 or 4 out of state guests, so we let them know verbally as soon as we booked out venue, and then sent out our save the dates 8 months before (I sent them out in January for our August wedding).
  • thank you christin228 that makes sense timeline wise with out of state guests!
