Venue Name Change... getting antzy!

Hey all... I posted awhile back that my reception venue for Nov 10th changed owners, lost it's brand, and didn't have a name... almost a month later (and over 2 months since losing their brand) they still have no name. When I called to ask what was going on, they told me they'd know by Jan 31, but still nothing. I'm just worried that they can't get their act together and I'm gonna need to scramble for a venue...

What would you do?
Would you trust that it will work out or would you try to get your deposit back?
(contract says nothing about cancelling...)

  • I'm a bit of a control freak/planner, so for me, I'd be on the phone with them getting firm and pushing for answers..wich might get me nowhere if these folks are still trying to figure everything out. lol You could always make an appt with them to have a meeting, sit down and have a frank and open conversation about your concerns going forward. It is important to remember that you do have choices. Your contract was with "X" venue. Since "X" no longer exists, even though it may just be changing names, that original entity has dissolved. You do have the right to revoke a contract once that enitity ceases to exist. You have no way of ensuring, other then someone word that the quality and caliber of your venue will remain the same. It's def. best to talk with a representative from the venue further to get more specifics. If for some reason it didn't work out, you can still fins another location and to be honest, might get a fantastic deal because of your timeline. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't stress, because no matter what, your going to have an amazing day! This is just one of those annoying speedbumps that you hit along the way :o)
    Best wishes!!!

  • It does take time for the new hotel to get approved by the big wigs to make sure it's up to par.    When is your wedding?

Thanks both of you... wedding isn't until November... so I know I have time and shouldn't stress myself... but I hate not knowing. I just want to make the right decision. I'm know hotels change often but I don't know how long I should expect it to take before actually needing to worry, lol. If I do end up changing venues, I'm hoping for a slightly better deal.

  • I drove past it yesterday... I saw a crane and it looked like there were cars in the lot. Is it open for business at all? Did they give you a timeframe when you called the last time? I am sure it will be fine but it is understandable that you are anxious!

  • Yes, it's open... they told me Jan. 31st so I guess it's not too far beyond yet...

On possible problem with that contract interpretation is that if the venue no longer exists, say goodbye to your deposit.

Not necessarily, although it is possible that you'd have to forfeit the deposit, there is an arguement under Undue enrichment policy that would urge the business that in a dissolution of the contract, neither party should be unjustly enriched AKA they may need to return the money.
