Thank You Notes How Soon?

The post below got me thinking about sending out wedding thank you's. We've only been married for 3 weeks but we were thinking about getting them out soon. The last 2 weddings we went to one waited 6 months to send them out and the other was in March and we still haven't gotten one.  When did you/do you plan on sending out your wedding thank you's?

I don't think it's ever too soon. Too late, yes- too soon, no!

get them out as soon as you can.  we got married in august and I waited for my pictures to come back and by the time I ordered them and wrote them all out it was the beginning of December.

I think within three months is ideal, and within six months is acceptable, so I got ours out around the two-month mark.

However, it took me about three or four weeks to actually sit down and write all of them ... I did it in spurts of maybe 10 a night, once or twice a week.

We got one 9 months after a wedding and it only had a pre-printed message, no personal note or even the couple's signatures. That was totally rude, and pointless to boot. Why even bother sending them out at all in that case?

I am planning to send them within a couple of months after the wedding. People know you have a lot going on after the wedding and give a little leeway. However, there is a point in time that it becomes too long. So I think you sending them out now is a nice gesture to your guests. I think they will also be pleasantly surprised to get the thank you earlier rather than later.

Friend of mine got married in 2007, and I never saw a thank you note. Now, part of me wonders if our gift got separated from our card, but... yeah. For someone who is confrontational, I never brought it up...

On the other hand, we sent a gift to my cousin's wedding that we couldn't attend last July, and by the fall we'd gotten a sweet, personalized note. (I even got PM'd on facebook to check our address!)

I got ours out just under the 2 month mark and I was beating myself up because I wanted them out faster. Personally I'm a stickler for getting them out fast.

I think the earlier you are motivated to get them done, the better. It gets them out of the way, and the earlier they go out, the more your guests will appreciate it.  I know I enjoy receiving them within a few months of attending the wedding, rather than much later when I can't really remember the evening.

We are getting married in October and hope to have them out in December so we can do a thank you/happy holidays card. I know how I am and I know I will just want them out so I don't have to worry about it.

Thanks everyone. I just wanted to make sure we weren't jumping the gun. We also decided on photo cards since we are so happy with the way they came out. We should be getting them any day.

We got married 3 weeks ago as well, and I can't wait to send out the thank you cards. We got our pro pics back last week and already chose the picture we want for the thank you; our photographer will be emailing us the image within the next few days so that we can order the thank yous asap.

Like mbcdefg... we received a thank you 9-10 months after the wedding, preprinted (NO signatures) and there was a typo... pathetic.
