I love Thanksgiving a lot also!  My aunt has Thanksgiving every year & FI's family doesn't really get together so it works out for us.  My mom makes the best stuffing I've ever had, she puts sausage & bacon in it (now I'm drooling).  I'm also obsessed with sweet potatoes with butter & brown sugar.

I'm making a dessert this year: pumpkin cupcakes with pumpkin spice cream cheese frosting.  They're absolutely delicious (I made them last month) & not terrible for you (they're Weight Watchers friendly Laughing

We've been alternating our families (they are too far apart to do both in one day) and DH just announced he would like to host this year and "start new traditions". We hosted a few years ago and it was fun (and kudos to our moms, aunts and grandmas for doing it all those years because it sure was a lot of work!) DH loves to cook and has started collecting recipes for Thanksgiving. Two years ago he made this amazing cranberry chutney (in addition to good ole canned cranberry sauce) and some awesome horseradish mashed potatoes. I don't have the links handy but they are both from the food network website. I love turkey!

We would love to have Thanksgiving at our place but our apartment is too small for our combined family. For now, we'll be having Thanksgiving at my mom's house. My parents invited over FI's family (parents and two brothers) so it's nice that we can all be together.

Once we buy our house, however, all parties will be there...FI and I LOVE to entertain! :)

I love Thanksgiving!  31 days away...We usually do Thanksgiving at my parents house, then we shoot up to Parsippany to my future aunt and uncles for dessert w/ fiance's family and cozying up with them.  BUT I think this year, we are hosting!  We hosted Easter too... while it's a challenege, I think we're up for it.  =)

Thanksgiving is my second favorite holiday (behind Christmas)!!  Favorite Thanksgiving food is our homemade stuffing (mom's recipe - soooo good). Last year FI and I hosted Thanksgiving at our condo for his immediate family, but are heading up to their home in Upstate NY this year.  This way we get to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with my family (whcih is a really big production).... then usually head Upstate the day after Christmas to see his family.  I can't wait until we start hosting holidays on a more regular basis though!  That way we can have both sides there :)  We will have to wait until we have a house for that though.... fitting all those people in our condo would just be craziness.

I love Thanksgiving...it is the start of the holiday season for me!

We have been doing 3 in one day for the past few years (FI's family, My Dad's family, my mom's family) but since we will be coming back from out honeymoon the day before we are only going to do 2.

FI and I are taking over the hosting starting next year and are inviting everyone...yay...no more travel!

I LOVE Thanksgiving!!  It's the start of the holiday season for our family, as well (we're BIG into Christmas)

We normally have it at my mother's house, and last year we had my FI's parents over for the first time and it was really nice to have a full house!  We'll probably do the same this year.  My mom also makes her stuffing with sausage and it is out of this world.  I HATE turkey, but my mom always makes a ham, as well, since my pop-pop always refused to eat turkey... guess I take after him :)

I made these last year and they were a HUGE hit and a great way to get people to eat their veggies (bacon makes everything better)

    1 pound Brussels sprouts
    2 slices bacon (uncooked)
1 apple, cored and cut into 1-inch cubes (we use Honeycrisp if available. Gala, Fuji or Pink Lady apples work great too)
    2 tablespoons olive oil

Remove any damaged or discolored leaves from the outside of each sprout and cut off the tough white stem base (if necessary). Cut each sprout in half.

Place the Brussels in a roasting pan with the diced apple.  Slice 2 slices of bacon into 1/2 inch pieces.  Drop them uncooked into the pan with the sprouts and apples. Drizzle the sprouts and bacon generously with olive oil.  Toss to combine.

Roast 20 minutes at 400 degrees.  Toss.  Continue roasting 15 to 20 minutes more, until the vegetables are nicely caramelized.

We usually have dinner with my fiance's family first & then go to my aunt and uncle's house. My aunt & uncle make two turkeys (each are brined & stuffed differently) and tonssss of other things to choose from. I usually walk out of there 10lbs heavier.

I would really love to host Thanksgiving this year but it is so soon after the wedding I don't think we'll be ready, we moved recently and unpacking has taken a back seat to wedding prep.

FI discovered this Emeril recipe for mashed sweet potatoes and it is a big hit!

    2 lbs sweet potatoes
    1/2 c. heavy cream
    3 tbsp light brown sugar
    3 tbsp butter
    2 tbsp maple syrup
    pinch salt and pepper
1 tsp fresh thyme leaves (optional)

Preheat the oven to 350.  Place potatoes on a foil lined baking sheet and bake until tender and beginning to ooze sugary syrup, about 1 hour 15 minutes.  Remove from oven and let sit until cool enough to handle.   Cut potatoes in half lengthwise adn scoop out the flesh with a spoon into a large bowl.  Add the cream, brown sugar, butter, syrup, salt and pepper, and thyme (if using) and mix, mashing until the potatoe mixture is smooth.  Cover to keep warm until ready to serve.

Note: I recommend omitting thyme altogether if you don't have fresh, we've tried it with dried thyme and found it to be overpowering.  It's really awesome with the fresh thyme though!
