bridal shower gift

Hi girls,

I need help! One of my closest friends is getting married and I want to get her something that's not off her registry. Something creative and different that's not your typical kitchen appliance. Any ideas would definitely help!

Is she going on a honeymoon? The reason I ask, is because I was in a wedding once and we all chipped in and bought a gift certificate for a couple's massage at the resort they were staying at while they were away. I thought that was a great idea. You may be able to do something similar--depending on what you wanted to spend.

She's a big wine fanatic. She is going on a honeymoon to Riviera Maya, I was thinking of doing something like that. The couples massage. I think it's a cute idea. I was also thinking about a honeymoon gift basket, with a robe, towel, magazines, sun tan lotion, but I can't decide if it's something she would like.

My mom always gives a "blessing bowl" to the bride and groom with some of their info and wording on it that is relevant to them.

Google "blessing bowl" and you'll find a bunch of companies that sell them in various styles and sizes.  It makes a nice gift to wish the marriage many "blessings".

You could give her wines to drink for each event in her life.  I think there is a poem for it but usually its wine for their first house, child, fight, etc.  Or I know friends who gave the couple wine for their 1st, 5th and 10th anniversaries.

I like the idea of the hanger, and somewhat related -- J. Crew sells tags that can be sewn into a wedding dress as a something blue (go to http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Navigation/Wedding.jsp and click on "something blue" for info)

I'm not a huge fan of honeymoon baskets, to be honest.  They're cute ideas, but I'm not going to bring several months old magazines with me on vacation, I want to pick out my own SPF, towels and robes take up too much space in luggage and will be provided by the hotel, etc.  I've never seen one that wasn't a cute idea but kind of a waste once you thought about it.  A gift certificate for a spa service at the hotel can be a nice idea.  I'm sure her mom or a sibling knows where she's staying if you don't.

What about a wine of the month club?  Does she have a rabbit (I mean the wine opener)?  We use ours all the time (but it isn't something you need several of, if she may have one).  A wine cooler or wine coaster might also be handy (again if you know she doesn't have one).

If she likes beauty products, a gift certificate for a spa next home could be nice, for a pre-wedding facial or massage.

I used to get friends who liked beauty products the Philosophy Here Comes the Bride kit.  Here's the new version: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P218916&categoryId=B70 (if she decides she won't use the products, returns at Sephora are super easy and I'm sure she could find something she wants).

I went to a shower once and two of the woman's frineds set up something on thier honeymoon so that they had like their favorite breakfast food sent to them one morning or had booked them a speacial dinner. I dont remember what it was exactly but the bride loved it and it was very thoughtful!
