Shadowbrook in Shrewsbury

I'm attending an open house at Shadowbrook this upcoming Thursday and thought I'd see if anyone had been there before/had their wedding there. It looks beautiful from the pictures and I'm leaning towards having the ceremony in a garden and they appear to have that option available.

thoughts/reviews/opinions?

thanks all! :)

I've been there for a work related event 2x. Both times I was not impressed. The food wasn't good & came out super late. The bar area was very small & super crowded. In general the place is not my style.

When you walk inside you will feel like you are in the Haunted Mansion in Disney.  It has a very nice large party room but the rest of it is VERY out dated.  Lots of very old and mismatched rugs.  It's been over a year since we were last there but it was very odd.

We didn't really like the foyer area when you walk in.  Too ornate in an over-the-top way.  They showed us the ballroom downstairs because we didn't have enough people for the upstairs one, and the downstairs one wasn't much to look at.  The gardens are beautiful but I simply did not like the inside area where you have the cocktail hour if its raining (again for the downstairs room).  The upstairs room is a lot nicer and as you drive up the exterior is very impressive.  We decided against it in the end though.

We looked at one of the smaller rooms but didnt like it because it was oddly divided, the dance floor and bar were separate (couldn't really see the dance floor or bar) from the table area, just seemed weird.

thanks for the reviews! i'm checking out the channel club in a few weeks as well, just wanted to see what was out there so i can start narrowing down my options. it helps to hear from others who have been or went to see for themselves.

I liked Shadowbrook... well, I hated the smaller room downstairs, but thought the bigger room had a lot of character. DH thought it was absolutely terrible and way too dark. The outside grounds are really nice for the ceremony. But, seems that people either hate it or love it. We finally went with Channel Club, and that has it's positives and negatives as well, but it was a much better fit for us.

I went to a bridal showcase there and thought the food was good... it was their appetizer foods, so I didn't have any entrees- but I enjoyed the food at Shadowbrook. It was semi-pricey... don't remember exactly the price though. It also varied depending on the package..

i went to the bridal show tonight and didn't think the food was all that bad either. i've had better penne and vodka but the chicken was pretty good. and the chocolate covered strawberries were amaaaaazing!

as far as pricing, for my day & date (a saturday in sept.) it was $125 pp not including tax plus $10 pp for the ceremony, since i'm doing ceremony & reception at the same place. i wouldn't have minded the pricing if i had fallen in love with it. i loved the drive in -- with the trees and how pretty the building looked. and i loved the main garden -- it was beautiful. but everything inside seemed a bit crowded. i just didn't fall in love with it.

i'm checking out the channel club at their bridal show and then i'd like to schedule an appointment at perona farms as well. just keep checking things out til i know it's right! :)

i did see a photographer i may be interested in -- jeri houseworth. i just loved the photos she displayed, they were so great.

In defense of this place, the food is OUTSTANDING, and the atmosphere is beautiful.  But, I am 42, and a first time bride, so I guess the "old world charm" of the place would appeal to me.  lol.  The price is relative to other places, however, what they offer you in terms of time, staff, and package amenities far outweighs most of the other places out there right now.  They have been doing weddings for 90 years, and have been family owned and operated for every one of those years, so they really know what they're doing.  Management is friendly and more than accomodating.   I have never heard a bad word about this place from anyone who has attended a wedding here, nor have I ever heard an untoward comment from any employee, past or present.  We are booked here for next September, and I can't wait!  Good luck to everyone in your search, I really hope you find the place for you.  Your wedding day should be everything you want it to be, and more.
