Marriage License

I'm obviously going to need to apply for that soon (37 days out...AKK!).  Can someone remind me where I'm supposed to do that again?  Do you know if they happen to be open on weekends???

(feels very stupid for asking this question after being on this board for 2 years *head desk*)

you need to go to town hall where you live.  I would call them and see when they are open and if you need an appointment but I would highly doubt they are open on the weekends.

You have to apply in the town which you live in. I would think it depends on the town when they are open- ours you had to make an appointment, bring a witness, and go during the week. Then you (or someone else) has to pick up the marriage license, to have the officiant sign and our officiant sent it to the town we got married in, which we will have to go pick up the official marriage certificate. It's a process.

Ours has one night a week as a late night. It needs to be the town where the bride resides and I'd call beforehand. I was able to get a lot of the info over the phone that we'll need when we go and the guy in our town was very helpful.

It doesn't have to be the town where the bride resides, you can go where the groom is as well...I know this because the lady in the town where I was living at the time was going to be away for some time and she told me that I could go to the town where my husband lived if we weren't able to get there.   most times though people go where the bride lives.

I'm sorry if this is considered hijacking, but our town (edit: all of NJ) requires that you bring a witness to apply for the license...does anyone understand WHY?! (Getting there on a weekday is hard enough, but now we have to get a third party to do so as well?)

I think to avoid fraud and forced marriages. When my dad and stepmom applied, they ended up taking my friend from college - I didn't count as a witness, as I was related to one party.

Do you and your FI have to go?  My FI lives out of town and wont be here til about 2 days before the wedding and I am guessing that is not enough time to get the license. crap, i think i might be in trouble with this one. AHHHH
