New Jersey

Theme

We will be having our wedding at the Berkeley Hotel in Asbury Park, and going to some landmarks for pictures ahead of time.  Do you think it would be silly to do an Asbury Park/boardwalk theme?  If you think it's a good idea, what are some suggestions you have for things I can do that won't put it over the top?  So far I am thinking of using Bruce Springsteen song titles as table names and salt water taffy for favors.

TIA!

this is an amazing Carnival themed wedding - but some of these ideas could be used for a boardwalk theme as well.

i think its a AWESOME idea!  just be aware...there is a fine line between creative details and cheesy ones.

I think what you have in mind is fine.

Or instead of Springsteen songs, do a different Asbury Park postcard or classic retro boardwalk photo - or e-pics of yourself on the boardwalk and in the classic buildings - for each table number.

Or do a themed cake like this, playing off the famous "Greetings from Asbury Park" postcard: http://thumbnails.hulu.com/11/247/41352_512x288_generated__gBrzzwtheUS6OoSMdvgNKw.jpg

Or maybe include landmarks on the cake ... Stone Pony, Convention Hall, Tillie, etc. Or maybe make the Tillie face be a small, subtle logo on all of your stationery (invites, programs, place cards, etc.).

Any more than the taffy favors, and a couple touches here and there, and I think it'd be overkill. A little theme goes a long way. Too much makes it look like a kiddie birthday party.

I think the theme you have is a good idea. But like PPs stated, try not tie the theme to every little detail. A few key things go a long way IMO. The cake, favors, escort cards, and table numbers may be good places to show your theme.

I definitely agree that a little can go a long way, and agree to not overdo it.  I LOVE the idea of putting Tillie on the invites (as that is one of the places we will be taking some pictures).  I'm afraid J won't like that as Tillie freaks him out a little bit (he's not from Jersey, clearly).  I wanted to find a creative way to display the escort cards.  Perhaps I can make them look like arcade tickets? Yes? No?

Also...is this over the top cheesy?...
You know those wooden boards with pictures and holes cut out for you to stick your face through?  I thought that might be a fun alternative to a photo booth, but I'm afraid that might be taking it too far.  Thoughts?
