DJ Recommendations and Pricing?

Hi everyone, we are just starting to look into DJ's and are looking for reccomendations and average pricing. I've contacted a few companies so far and no one will tell me pricing without meeting with them. I really don't want to waste my time meeting with people that we well never be able to afford. But, I also have no clue what the "average" price for a DJ/MC is.

Can you guys let me in on the big secret on what base packages start arond and reccomend some DJ's for me? Our wedding is in West Orange, if that helps to keep it local. Thanks!

Re: DJ Recommendations and Pricing?

  • We hated this part the most - FI dealt with this.  It really depends on what you are looking for... from my experience, most tried to sell us a package with a DJ, MC, light show, and other stuff and this tended to start around $1700-$2000 and just go up for  a June wedding.  We really just wanted the basics but were told repeatedly that you just can't find that in NJ. Not true. We found what we were looking for and booked with Elite Entertainment.  We'll see how they do...

  • Our venue provided us with a list of "preferred" vendors.  I started there and then went on the vendor review link above.  I heard good things about DTM if you are looking into something on the more simple end of things.  If you pm me they sent me their price sheet and I can send it over.

  • I would definitely start with your venue's 'preferred list' like PP mentioned, and also go to a bridal show. They often will do mini shows there so you can hear their style & also give pretty good deals. We're using a friend of a friend, so he gave us a ridiculous deal. I probably would have to pay about $2000 to get that elsewhere. Elite Entertainment is a popular one, but the reviews seem mixed, depending upon which DJ you get.
  • We booked with This Magic Moment http://www.thismagicmomentnj.com/
Packages Start at $1200 and go up to about $2000 based on what you select.
DJ Adam is fantastic. He came to us for our appointment which which worked well as it was 2 days after i had foot surgery and getting around was not so easy for me.
  • We are also getting married in West Orange...at The Manor.  We are using Golden Note and paying $1395 for one dj and on mc.  If you want any specific lighting that would start getting expensive.  We got just basic dance floor lighting for an additional $300.  All that fancy uplighting will also cost you an additional $500-$1,000.  Then they also charge an extra $200-300 for ceremony music, if you want them to do that also.  Hope this helps!

  • I'm using Paul Anthony Entertainment and the price is around $1300.

  • it seems to really depend on what you want.

Most offer standard DJ, then add ons include extra MC, various kinds of uplighting, ceremony music, cocktail hour music, etc etc.

We went with DJUSA after hearing them at a friends wedding and for DJ and uplighting are paying just under $2K
  • I think all djs should listen to what you need and make a custom package that fits your budget. My fiancee and I looked all over and met the nicest guys at a wedding center in nutley. They made a package that fit our needs and they exceeded our expectations. I fell in love after the whole planning process and decided to help brides plan their weddings!! You have to check these guys out...they're super honest!!
    Their website is www.newjerseyweddingdj.com

    Good luck!!!

  • As PP said I would go to a bridal show to get an idea of their style. I met with DTM Productions at a group tasting at the venue we booked and they seemed reasonably priced and had quite a few different packages. I think their prices are listed on their website.

  • We're paying just under $2400 for a DJ for 6 hours (ceremony, cocktail hour, & reception) as well as full uplighting for the reception.

We booked with Elite Sound Entertainment (not to be confused with Elite Entertainment).  They were on the higher end of our budget but my friend used them & we were at her wedding & loved them.  It definitely helped us make our decision because we had seen/heard them work.

  • Mike Chieffo from DJMC is amazing! He will work within your budget.
  • We used Justin from VenueAudio. He was $1800 but we talked him down to $1500 for 6 hours of music, full up-lighting, 2 42 inch plasmas, and DJ/Emcee. Very good and was on point with calling us back in time. Other friends I know have used POSH which was also good just more expensive. They ofer a photo booth which VenueAudio doesn't. Good Luck!
  • We are using Diverse Entertainment.  They really worked with us with our budget and we are still getting everything we wanted.  You can also check out LJ DJ's.
