NJ - can you have two middle names?

hi!   i started researching this b/c i'm thinking about keeping my given middle name and making my maiden name my 2nd middle name, but in my research i have read that you can't do this in NJ and you need a court order if you would like to do this???  does anyone have any insight to this?

i dont want to hypenate last names, i definitely only want one last name - FI's last name,  but thought it would be a great way to keep my maiden name by making it my 2nd middle name.

thanks!!!!

Hmm... I was born with two middle names.  I have two middle names on my passport... except New Jersey only has one on my license.  Not sure about changing it though.

<div>I was going to do this also, until I heard about all the court fees and paperwork that goes with it, so I passed.</div>

Could you hyphenate your middle name and your maiden name? Probably not exactly what you want to do but it might be the simplest way to be able to keep both.

A friend of mine just did this last year.  She never mentioned any court fees or extra steps.

  • I just got married and wanted to do this too because I just don't want to completely get rid of any of my names.  Did it end up working out for you?
  • I wanted to keep my maiden name too.  I took my husbands name and changed my middle name to my maiden name.  I didn't keep my original middle name, I just dropped it.  Did everything at Social Security.
