Dress shopping - bleh

tomorrow I'm going first time dress shopping at the DB in East Brunswick.

I realized that I have no idea I'm looking for. I want to try on different styles to figure out what I want. Is this a bad idea to go in with zero idea? I know DB doesn't have the best customer service

Our wedding is in a gorgeous hotel ballroom, but it's both traditional and modern so it could go either way. I know the dress should be pretty formal. Ugh I thought I would know what I wanted but I feel I can't rule out anything until I Try it on!

All of the gowns they sell are on their website, so I'd find a bunch you think you might like, and print them out, so they can pull those dresses for you. They will also show you the catalog when you get there, so you can pick from there also. Hopefully, that will give you a good start to figure out what you like.. Maybe try on a dress from each style, for example, Mermaid, Ball gown, A-line, etc.. then start narrowing it down from there.

i went to the DB in EB (the old store) to get an idea of what I liked. I knew I wasnt going to buy my dress from there but I wanted to take the time to see what looked good and what didnt there before I went shopping for my actual dress. It worked because what I thought I was going to get, I got completely lost in!

Just go through the racks and start trying things on, and try every style! I never though it would end up with the style i have now.

Just try on everything that you like, no matter the shape.  Then from there, narrow it down to how you feel in it and how it looks on you.  Don't rule anything out esp since dresses could look totally diff on then from on the hanger.

I went to DB with pictures of the style of dress I liked - v-neck, a-line, barely any beading.  I tried them all on at DB but nothing looked right.  I ended up loving a dress from there that was strapless, beaded, and drop waist.  Use david's bridal as a time to try as many styles as you can, so when you go to different salons (if you end up doing that) you then have a clear idea of what style fits you best.  Good luck!

Ditto to all the PPers.  Went to the DB in EB because I had no idea what I wanted and didn't want to "waste" an appointment at another shop figuring it out.  I knew I wouldn't buy my dress there, but during my appointment I was able to decide that I wanted an off-white dress for my complexion and a trumpet dress for my body type.  It was worth it, and then I started doing serious shopping elsewhere!

I went to the David's Bridal in NYC. Maybe I lucked out, but I was thought customer service was lovely. Granted, you're not the only person in the store;  it's not a little boutique, but the woman waiting on me was totally there for me. But It's def a great way to start -- and you never know-- you could find something there you like.  I studied the dresses on their website for a while til I came up with some looks I might like (I have to say, the first few times I looked at wedding dresses ANYWHERE, it was completely overwhelming -- everything looked either too big and poofy or too slinky and glam -- but after a while I started noticing looks I could abide by:-) I think it helps to pick out about 5-7 dresses you'd like to try, and label them in order of preference. That can totally change once you're there, but it gives the salesperson something to start with... or at least go in with an idea of what you DONT want (that can be easier) -- though that of course can change too. You see really quickly what does and doesn't look good on.

i went to david's bridal in paramus on a tuesday night about 6:00. i was treated like royalty. it was DEAD. go during the week!! 

i picked up their magazine ahead of time, circled the ones i liked, and tried them all on. you can also go on their website as pp said and print out/ write down the style numbers of dresses you like,
