Silk Flowers Anyone????

I am wondering if anyone has used silk flowers? I think the idea of it is great. I get to keep my bouquet, show my children, display in my home....But always thought it was too expensive, since my flower budget is $800 or less. Anyway, I found this link from another blog, Weddings.com and they really do have amazing looking flowers & fabulous prices. Any thoughts?

You can get great real flowers for $800 or less. I'm not a fan of silk flowers.

I have yet to see fake flowers that don't actually look fake. For really good-quality ones, I think you'd be spending a lot of money. And if you want an honest opinion, I think some of those arrangements look really silly because they're colors that aren't normally found in nature (the electric blue and lime green flowers, for example).

I spent under $700 and I got 16 centerpieces plus candles, my bouquet, two BM bouquets and a toss bouquet, and a total of 12 boutonnieres and corsages. We didn't spend very much on the wedding party because we used gerbera daisies, and the readers got carnations which were inexpensive. Our centerpieces were hydrangea, daisies and wax flowers, and worked out to about $25 each including the purchase of the vases. I knew what I wanted for some things, but for the rest I said, "Here's what I can afford and here are the arrangements I need. What can you do for me at that price?"

If you're open to using inexpensive, in-season blooms, you can save a lot of money. Daisies, carnations, roses are usually fairly inexpensive, filler flowers (stock, baby's breath, green leaves, etc.). Let a florist tell you what they can do for you. And check out supermarket florists, too. Some of them do awesome work, better than many pro wedding florists I've seen.

I mean, if you really want fake flowers because you want to keep them after your wedding, that's fine. But if you're ONLY doing it to save money, then I would personally shop around a bit for fresh flowers before you determine that you can't afford it.

please don't do silk flowers unless you really can't afford real ones.

I'd rather see real daisies than fake roses at someone's wedding

Honestly, those look fake to me and the pictures aren't even that good.  Your guests will be seeing everything up close, and the wedding photographs will likely be much better quality than the ebay pictures -- so I don't think anyone will be fooled.  And as others have said, you can get great real flowers on a budget!

A fun way to incorporate a bouquet that you can save forever (my sister did this for my wedding)

So for the shower she asked everyone to include one silk flower in the wrapping of my gifts. Instead of the hat of ribbons and boys she decided to make a bouquet of silk flowers. She figured well some will do it some won't and thats totally fine. Well our family and friends went a little crazy in that we had so many flowers we ended up making a small bouquet for each of my 6 BM/MOH and one for me. Now I have that to keep as a reminder of my rehearsal, my shower, and my sister who made it but I still had real flowers at the wedding.

They seem very expensive. $159.99 for the bridal bouquet? I paid less than that for my real flowers- roses, calla lillies and peonies AND with a more expensive florist.

that price for fake flowers?  Yikes.  I am just not a fan of fake flowers anywhere. You can definitely get real flowers within your price range.  Tell the florist you have X to spend and what can they do.  Use flowers in season.

But ultimately, its your wedding and your choice.  I would try some different vendors though. Those seem way overpriced for what you are getting.   Maybe try etsy.

I've seen paper flower bouquets before (similar to something you would see on martha stewart) and I thought this was interesting.  Personally, I just don't like the look of silk flowers that are "trying" to look real.
