Thank You cards?

Just wondering.. where did you all get your Thank You cards from?

I was thinking of making them with a photo of us.. but it seems like everywhere I look online is pretty expensive.. I'd really rather not spent $75 on 100 thank you cards that will just get thrown out.
I've checked  Vistaprint, Mixbook, Shutterfly, and a bunch of other sites.

For press printed cards with envelopes, budget 1-2 bucks a card.  A less expensive way to do it is with a photocard, basically get your design, and print it 4x6 or 5x7.  With postage it's probably going to run you 100-200ish.

Ours were from Shutterfly and they usually run sales. If you're signed up for their e-newsletter you should get notice of these sales.

Did you check Zazzle.com? They have inexpensive photo stationery. You could also try ordering them through Walgreens or another pharmacy with a photo department.

Before you order anything online, check coupon sites like retailmenot.com for savings codes.

ETA: just went into Shutterfly and pulled up my order from last year. Here is what I got with some coupon codes:

I included the prints for various people in the thank you cards. And I still have a ton of greeting cards left over (we had 120 guests, no idea why I ordered so many).

Yeah, it is looking like I'm just going to have to suck it up and spend the money.. I hadn't even thought of postage! ugh...

Can always send them an eCARD  LOL.  I've seen post card style Thank You's which will save you envelopes and postage.  Seriously though, the cheapest way to do it is to design the card and print it as a photo, stick it in an envelope and mail.  It's not as nice as a press printed product, but gets the job done.

Personally, these are things I don't skimp on.  Especially Thank You's.  In the end, it's not that much money, and every guest bought you a gift probably that is worth 100 times as much as the thank you card.  It shows your appreciation, and most people will keep them or at least display them for a while on their fridge.  I agree paying for them sucks, but think of it as a % of what your total gifts were.

But I am a sucker for high quality press products, so I am probably the last person you need advice from.  Our birth announcements were a trifold 5x7, linen texture, with die cut scalloped edges.  They were over 3 bucks a pop!   LOL

    I sent you a PM

I wouldn't want to just do a post card with no envelope.. IMO that is tacky.. I'll keep looking online..

I've definitely looked for coupon codes.. but I can't just keep waiting until there is a really good sale. I wanted to get them ordered as soon as we get some pics from our photographer, which should be within the next week or two.

Ok question..if I get the flat photo card in glossy.. will I be able to write on the back of the photo or will the back be glossy as well? Or do I have to get it on stationery paper, and if so, what does that look like? Just a photo printed on regular paper?

You would want a layout showcasing your photo, a nice border, and some words (thank you, date, etc).  If you go for flat cards, you would have to write on the back.  You CAN write on the back of photopaper.  You can also order bulk photo's cheaper than press cards, assuming you had a designed layout.

I made our in Shutterfly and it was $160 for 135 cards. I went thru ebates to order, so I got an extra discount and also got free shipping and I think another coupon to help save. To me, it was well worth it (even though I wanted to go cheaper) and we got SO many compliments on them. This is the design I used and then inside we included two additional photos

Ok, well thats good to know...many sites have the photo cards with cute layouts.. I just wasn't sure if I'd be able to write on the back of them...and they include envelopes.. so it is not the same thing as a post card. The folded cards are so much more expensive, I just don't think we can swing them.. so I guess photo cards it is.

Now to find the best price! Thanks for all the info!

The point I was making per my PM is that if you had a premade design, you could just get prints that would be maybe $0.10 - $0.50 cents each, instead of a ~buck each using pre-made templates online.
