Marriage Certificate

Does this get mailed to you? or do you have to go pick it up? If you pick it up.... is it in the town you live in or the one you got married in?   so confused!

You can have them mailed to you or you can pick it up, i think it sometimes depends on the town.  You would get this from the town you got married in, which is where it should have been filed.

you will get if from the town where you got married.    I would call and ask, because I was told that it couldn't be mailed and I had to physically go pick it up.   every town has its own rules, so your best bet is to just call.

I would also look into this, I live in NY but since I'm getting married in NJ I need to go in person and get it in the town Im getting married (not convenient) and even worse there are certain time frames; for example, I need to go within 72 hours prior to my wedding and bring my own witnesses.

Prior to your wedding everyone must go in person beforehand with a witness, and I would definitely call first because and a bit in advance.  I had to go about a month before my wedding to do the paperwork then I picked up a few weeks later because the lady was going on vacation.  You have to pick within 30 days of your wedding.

I think the original poster was talking about after the wedding, in which some towns will mail you the marriage certificate.
