Wine Bottle Favors

I was thinking about giving a bottle of mine and FI favorite wine as our wedding favor. I found a site that has mini bottles and was thinking about giving to each guest since they are really a single serving.  My mom doesn't like the idea of the mini bottles and said we should buy the regular size and give one per couple.  First wanted to know what people think about the mini bottles.  Also, has anyone done the regular size bottles and know a site or distributor that offers discounted wine?

I am doing regular sized bottles. Trader Joe's sells Charles Shaw for 2.99 and they are actually really good. I tried them to see which ones I want to get. I think I am going to do Chardonnay and Cabernet so each couple can go home with a bottle of red and a bottle of white. I heard that the International ones are actually Yellowtail.

I would go with 1 large bottle per couple.  I like the mini idea as well, but then i figure people may forget the tiny ones.

Bottle King in Wayne NJ will give a discount ontop of thier already discounts if you order in Bulk!! I was just there yesterday asking a bunch of questions about the wine favors!

I like the idea of either one, but I just wanted to add that you should check with your venue about whether it would be OK for you to give out alcohol as a favor. I know it sounds crazy, but our venue has a strict alcohol policy that prohibits us from distributing bottles of wine/beer/liquor to our guests outside of the bar. For example, we aren't allowed to put a mini bottle of champagne in the OOT bags that would be given to our guests (the hotel is the same venue as the ceremony and reception.)

    Just something to think about...

denise, will you be adding your own label?
we were thinking of bottling our own wine and putting a label on it, but it came out to be way too expensive, but it was a good idea!  so without totally letting the idea go, maybe we could do an inexpensive wine, i love two buck chuck!!!!

I love the idea of either - I think I would prefer the larger bottle as a guest if given a choice but wouldn't think twice about it if I was given the mini. FI did mini bottles as favors for my surprise 40th birthday and everyone loved them - if he hadn't done that for my 40th I would be doing it for the wedding - but instead we are doing caramel apples in keeping with our fall theme!

Never thought of the hall possibly not allowing.  I should definitelty ask about that one.  Out of curiosity, which hall are you using?

I like the idea of mini bottles that way each person gets their own.  One for each couple is a great idea but it might be a little awkward for people who don't live together or take a friend as a date.

I also plan on doing this and I am going to get the regular size bottles.  I think either way works but I just prefer the regular size.

I really like this idea as well... we were thinking of doing the single serve bottles as well with our own labels!

We're getting married at the Westin in Morristown. We had to sign some alcohol contract along with all the other stuff when we decided to book the venue. We're totally fine with that, but I would never have guessed that there was such a restriction there! (I think it was something about local law or something or other.)

The only problem with one per couple is how do you distribute the wine?  Are you going to put it on the table and if so, you will need to have place card settings.  Might be easier if you use the bottles as escort cards - tie a little card around each with the name and table number?

We are going to have the bottles of wine on the table.  The venue suggested around the centerpiece, for we have tall candleabras.  I am labeling each bottle with the couple's names, this way each couple will go home with a bottle.  I will have extra there just in case someone grabs 2.

I would want whatever is the better wine.  Which is probably the full bottles because mini bottles usually aren't very good wine.  (Of course, there are a lot of full bottles of wine that are awful too...)

Denise -- 2BC isn't Yellow Tail (or at least I highly doubt there's any affiliation because Yellow Tail sued 2BC's maker last year for trademark infringement).  I think 2BC is actually made by a Franzia company.  One note: sometimes 2BC is very passable, and sometimes it isn't.  It isn't consistent because it is made with whatever grapes are available to the company at the time.  Sometimes that's a good batch and sometimes it is an eh batch.  So before commiting you may want to buy a bottle, try it, and if you like it, go back very soon and buy up the cases.

We didn't take the actual wine label off.  I thought of it, but didn't know how to do it without making it look cheap.  So I ordered these small gift tags, which are really stickers from <a href="http://www.weddingdivas.com/">www.weddingdivas.com</a>.  They were really inexpensive.  I've printed out all names and table numbers on clear lables and will cut them to place on top of the gift tag stickers.  The area above the labels on the Charles Shaw bottles is a flat area, so I'm going to stick the labels there.  I'll do some kind of ribbon most likely on the top.

These are the ones I got in green.  They have so many cute ones to choose from!

A friend of mine also did the Trader Joe's wine. She started to try and take the labels off, but ended up just covering them with her own. She's a perfectionist, and even she was happy with the way they turned out! Lblumetti and Tanya, I think your ideas are really great, too! I'd love to see the website for the bags as well.

I don't think favors at weddings lead to awkwardness if there is just one per couple, even if the couple is platonic... generally, the person closest to the couple gets the favor, but I think that most people would offer it to their date, anyway. You'd have to be ridiculously spoiled if you're going to whine about not getting it! Not to mention that in my experience, even with carefully counted numbers, there are always a few guests who leave the favor, anyway, meaning extras for those couples who just REALLY want to take another one home.
