New Jersey

Reception site recommendations?

Hi everyone!

I am planning a Fall 2011 wedding and I'm getting a bit overwhelmed by all the reception locations in NJ. There are so many!

I would greatly appreciate any recommendations for reception sites in north or central NJ. If the place can hold the ceremony as well that would be a plus.

Also, I am leaning more toward a casual/restaurant feel than a ballroom setting. Any recommendations are appreciated though!

Thank you!

What is your budget that you're looking for? That really determines what people would recommend.

restaurantpassion.com is a good search tool for restaurants in NJ that can accommodate groups.

I liked Costa del Sol in Union, when we were searching for a reception location. That wasn't like a lot of the ballrooms we visited.

Someone also recommended The Pointe in Jersey City to me and MH, but that can only hold 100 so our guest list was too big. There's also Michael Anthony's in Jersey City, but I have no idea how much that costs or how many people they can accommodate.

Ditto PP - giving us some more details (guestlist, pricing, general area) will get you some better suggestions.

Our guest list is going to be around 80-100 people, so smaller venues are fine.

I am also getting married at the Primavera.  Try looking at the Manor in West Orange, they definitely have a smaller room and it's also a restaurant.  Stony Hill Inn, The Grand Colonial in Perryville maybe, Basking Ridge Country Club.

Is the $100pp before or after tax and gratuity charges? That can make a big difference.

Do you want to stay in any particular area of the state, or are you open to whatever? Are you willing to consider New York State and eastern Pennsylvania, or are you hoping to stay in New Jersey?

Are there any special features that you want? Do you anything to be outdoors (ceremony, cocktail hour, the whole reception), do you want to be near/on the beach, do you want guests to be able to stay overnight on the same property?

Seabra's Armory in Perth Amboy might be worth checking out. The Grand Summit Hotel in Summit is supposed to be nice ... if your $100pp does not include tax and gratuity then maybe you can swing that.

We are doing our wedding ceremony and reception this fall on the royal princess yacht which docks in weehawken, nj.  it can hold up to 200 people but we are doing something smaller, about 100.  we are doing a sit down so it's about $150 per person but it is less if you do a buffet.

The captain and his wife are awsome and have been very accomodating and helpful.  It may be worth a look.

    good luck

Oh, I forgot, someone on this board a while back had her reception at The Restaurant in Hackensack and said the pricing was reasonable (especially for a buffet dinner).

You could also try the Barnyard and Carriage House in Totowa.

I'm getting married at The Manor in West Orange. We're doing everything there. We got quoted $105 for a Saturday night in April and that fee includes the ceremony.

check out Highlawn Pavilion, despite the awkward shape of the dancefloor, its fits the bill of what you want and the shape might not be an issue for a smaller wedding because you would have less tables.

I also second Stony Hill Inn and Olde Mill.  Stony Hill has better food and Olde Mill has better ambiance but both fit your requirements.

Also, Chart House and Liberty House.  Oakside Mansion too.

Perona Farms (which is where we're having ours) is always nice and they do a great job, though they're less exotic than some of the other suggestions.  The various clubs that make up Crystal Springs are also beautiful settings.  All of these are in northwestern NJ.

I would check out The Manor in West Orange... they can accommodate smaller weddings and they are in your price range.
