Alterations & accessories

Hi Ladies,
I am having a hard time trying to find someone to do alterations on my dress. I purchased it from Priscilla of Boston 2 years ago when they went out of business. I've called several bridal salons, but they won't alter dresses that weren't purchased at their store. Does anyone have suggestions for a talened seamstress in the Hunterdon/Morris/Somerset area? Or any other suggestions about how to approach this.

I also need to purchase a veil somewhere.... but I am clueless about how to go about this. Am I allowed to bring my dress into a salon to wear while trying on veils? Any salon suggestions for this?

Thanks!

  • If you're up for making the trip, I can't recommend Sassy Chic boutique in Red Bank enough.  Donna is truly amazing!  Since most people don't have their dresses while shopping for veils (unless they buy them the same day at the same shop), most people bring pictures of their dresses with them.  It's up to you if you want to bring the actual dress, but the most you carry it around with you, the more you risk it getting wrinkled and dirty before the big day.  They actually have a seamstress they work with as well, so maybe it's worth asking if they'd take your dress.  Otherwise, you'll have to take your dress to a seamstress to get altered.  I'm not familiar with that area, but there are plenty of girls on this board who are.  Sassy Chic is by appointment only so you'll need to call ahead.
