I've never seen how it's done or what it is exactly... should we have one? Is it special? What song should we pick? Help ladies, especially with song suggestions; it could any style, pop, romantic, classical ... i'm open to all
Hmmm, from what I've seen the couple lights to little candles and just lights the big candle together, so I don't really know if we'll be missing anything if we don't do it! lol. We decided not to have it, cus we'll do other Filipino Catholic traditions anyway. But I think something classical would go well together with it! So I'm not much help! haha
The unity ceremonies that I've seen the mother of the bride light one candle, the mother of the groom light the other at the beginning of the service. After the vows & ring exchange the couple each takes their "family's" candle and lights a larger one in the center. "Joining of two households into one new household"
What kind of music do you like? Most of our songs for the ceremony are going to be contemporary song redone by VSQ.
we're having one and using the tradition LilMiss explained in PP. We ordered ours from David's Bridal online and had it personalized with our names and the date. it was about $50 I believe. I think it will be nice to have on our Mantel or in a safe place and you are supposed to relight it every year on year anniversary.

This. We're doing a unity candle ceremony and using the instrumental version of All My Life by KC and Jo-Jo for the song. This is how our unity candle set will look: <a href="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/12/6/0ccd9002-11f9-4c2b-8655-64efcbb7ddf8.large.jpg" title="Click to view a larger photo" onclick="return gSiteLife.LoadForumPage('ForumImage', 'plckPhotoId', '0ccd9002-11f9-4c2b-8655-64efcbb7ddf8', 'plckRedirectUrl', gSiteLife.EscapeValue(window.location.href));" class="PhotoLink"><img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/12/6/0ccd9002-11f9-4c2b-8655-64efcbb7ddf8.medium.jpg" alt="" /></a>
And it's really up to you and your FI as to if you guys should use a unity candle/ or do a unity ceremony. There are also other options available for uniting two families, like the sand unity ceremony: <a href="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/3/12/33598a2e-c251-407c-8ce1-2f4b98cd1dcd.large.jpg" title="Click to view a larger photo" onclick="return gSiteLife.LoadForumPage('ForumImage', 'plckPhotoId', '33598a2e-c251-407c-8ce1-2f4b98cd1dcd', 'plckRedirectUrl', gSiteLife.EscapeValue(window.location.href));" class="PhotoLink"><img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/3/12/33598a2e-c251-407c-8ce1-2f4b98cd1dcd.medium.jpg" alt="" /></a>
And the unity cross:
