Venues

I am having a terrible time finding a venue. I have tried hotels and other places but either they are in my price range but don't match what I envision or they are outrageously priced and perfect for my vision. Do any of you have ideas of good places? I would prefer to be near the coast which is where I live but I am willing to travel for the perfect place.

Thanks!

What section of the coast?  What's your general price range?  What's your vision?

I could go anywhere from greenville, wilmington, or outer banks. I am pretty much right in between those and other places. I wouldn't want to spend more than maybe 1,500. I want somewhere that looks classy but not stuffy. It is in November and will be in the evening.

I'm getting married in Wilmington and our reception venue is Halyburton Park Events Center. There's a link to their site in my bio.

I like it, there's hardwood floors, and it has a nice patio in the back, huge windows, it's definitely under your price range... holds at most 110 people though.

Another idea is renting a beach house and having the reception there... that was our original plan, and one of the other girls on this board just did that with her wedding a few weeks ago and it looked beautiful.

I'm getting married in Wilmington next May.  We're holding the ceremony and reception at 128 South Events & Catering's space on Front St.  It's attached to a 6-room inn (super convenient for us and the wedding party) called Stemmerman's.  So far we've had a great experience with them.  They have a website you can check out if you're interested.

You are welcome. ;o) I have all my vendors listed on my bio, if you need any other reccomendations. Let me know if I can help any further!

Oh, and if you haven't found your caterer yet, I strongly reccomend ours, they are amazing. They really remind me of one of your friend's parents, that everyone calls their parent's mom & dad and are always stopping by their house and they are always welcoming... they have been so helpful to me! And gave me several reccomendations on our DJ, Rental Place and our baker. All of which I went with except the DJ because he was already booked.

I actually looked at 128 south events. I loved it. Do you mind sharing some of the valuable information with me about them? Like what do they require or include?

I love Wilmington and I'm glad I'm getting some info from that area.

we rented a beach house and got married right on the beach.....couldn't have worked out better. not sure how many guests you are having but there are two beaches on oak island that will easily accommodate a reception for up to 150 people. we only had 50 guests but it was so nice.

you can check out our vendors in my bio as well, they are all out of wilmington and are the best of the best.

I know quite a bit of people who get married at the Yankee Hall Plantation in Greenville.  There is also Brooke Valley Golf course & Rock Springs. Not sure if this is what your looking for or not but suggestions you may want to look into. I don't know anything about the price ranges.

We looked at this place in Wilmington: http://www.theriverroomevents.com/

Probably would have gone with it if we hadn't decided to have the wedding on Topsail instead.

I highly recommend the Surf City Center on Topsail Island. It is right on the beach.  Since it is a community building, it is very inexpensive to rent.  We got it for $300 for the day with several tables and 125 chairs.  It has 2 decks and a wall of windows overlooking the ocean.  And you have the option of working with anyone you want.  So we found a fantastic caterer out of Jacksonville and we are bringing our own alcohol.

The only negative is that the place is small, but we are having a small wedding so it's cool.  The other thing is that the pictures on the website do not do the place justice!  You really need to see it.  It is newly renovated, so it's very nice.

It's true the pictures on the site don't do it justice at all.  When I sent the website to my mom she was like, "Seriously?" but she went with me to see it in person and did a complete 180 on her opinion :)
