a new tipping question

Here's one that I've been curious about but haven't really found an answer for in previous posts.  My FI and I are gettng married at COF and in the list of services, they have SUGGESTED gratuities.  Some sound reasonable enough I suppose, like $25 for the limo driver.  But is $60 for the person performing the ceremony a bit high?  Seems like it to me.  They also give a suggested price for the photographer which seemed high but I can't remember off the top of my head how much that was.  At first I was going to include the gratuities in the package so we wouldn't have to worry about it, but after giving it some thought I think maybe we can just save the tipping for in person and tip what we feel is appropriate.  ideas or help on this?

Re: a new tipping question

  • I think the $60 cash to the officiant is actually their fee - that's what i remember from my initila research into it - I know a lot of the chapels mention needing to have the $60 cash

it's tough - our package and most of our vendors include it - but most opinions are you should tip extra :/ which i'm going to use my discretion on - those that go above and beyond will get it, the others, are already tipped out :)

  • I was thinking the same thing about the 60.00 fee, i think it's fee for performing the ceremony.

I definitely wouldn't tip their officiant $60 but it may just be the fee and the ceremony is 'free' as far as COF is concerned.  I'm not sure why that is but officiants always get paid directly, maybe it's some legal thing or Nevada ministers can't be employed by non-churches or something weird like that.  We tipped ours $50 over his normal fee but that was because he came to meet us at our rehearsal dinner the night before as well as the ceremony the following day.

With what COF charges for photos I would have hoped they'd already be paying their photographer a very decent salary.

  • We have to pay our officiant in cash the day of ($75).  And tipping is up to our discretion.

  • We had to pay our officiant $75 minimum. I might have tipped him if we would have done what I asked. LOL. $75 was his "fee."
  • Thank you everyone, this information makes me feel better :)

  • I had a $60 fee this past week.  The minister was late to the wedding because of weather (not his fault).  I didn't meet him until 5 min after my wedding was supposed to start.

I did give him a small tip.
