MGM Grand Wedding

I am getting married at the MGM Grand in March 2010, the ceremony will take place on the terraza followed by an in suite reception in the Terrace suite. Any decorating suggestions or anything I should be aware of?

I got to poke my head into the Terrace suite when I was last in Vegas, I can send you pictures if you want.  Because it's split level, it decentralizes things a bit, but if you get creative you can use the stairs to your advantage (we thought of putting the cake on the desk by the stairs so people could stand on the stairs as well as around us to see the cutting). If you ask at the front desk, they might be able to let you in to take a look at the suite, depending on availability.  All we had to do was hand over a driver's license, and they gave us a room key and let us go up.  We ended up going with the Vista Suite at Mandalay Bay, but seeing the room in person was tremendously helpful.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

Congrats!! I am getting married there in March as well, what date did you pick? we are on the 4th. We were planning the same route as you, but got caught up with MGM Grand and their prices. I was told on a number of occasions we could not bring ANY food or liquor into the suite, and if we got caught doing so we would pay a major fee. --with that being said we we going to have a fairly large group, about 75 people, so we would more then likely get noticed. If your group is small you really should not have a problem. I do have some pictures of the Terrace suite if you want them. Also if you look the suite on youtube there is a handful of videos you can view. Good luck!! :)

We decided on March 27, I hope the weather is nice! I will probably have around 30-40 guests. I was thinking of bringing in wine and champagne and also buy some of their alcohol but bring in some extra bottles. Do you know if they will be in the suite. I'm just serving apps, so I wouldn't need any server. What are you doing for music?

What decorations are you going to do for the Terraza?

I'm getting married at the MGM December 19th. We're having ours in the Legacy Chapel. But we're also staying in the Terrace Suite and having a mini-reception there. We're not using the MGM though.....haha. A little too pricey. So we're having Freed's Bakery in Vegas make our cake and then they're going to deliver it. For the food we're having Masterpiece Cuisine deliver it. I have to say that both of these companies have been awesome! I know it's policy not the have outside food brought it....I figure the cake can't be that big of a deal and the caterer's told me that they do this all the time. If you're going this route....I would designate someone at the wedding to be the person who meets them in the lobby to bring them up to the suite. Just in case. We're not doing decorations, but I think some of those little lights would look really pretty wrapped around the terrace outside. If you google "terrace suite" you'll come across some videos that people have posted on YouTube and stuff.

Congrats! I was going to do outside catering but I was to scared. But really what can they do? Are you going to have alcohol? Please keep me updated, when you get back so I can know how things went. my email is kmarti20@uic.edu. Thank you!!

We're going to go out and probably just get a few bottles of liquor and some wine. I said there's no point and spending a lot of money on alcohol when we can go party on the casino floor and drink practically for FREE! hahaha. I don't see my guests hanging out in our suite all nite long anyway. I have this vision of running around the strip in my wedding dress haha. I'll definitely keep you updated and post the pics!

Sorry my post makes it sounds like we are still going to have the in-suite at the Terrace, we are not. we moved it to the APEX suites at PH. I just couldn't have the thought of the hotel busting us for bringing in outside stuff. So we moved it to a bigger location :) HOWEVER I am looking forward to seeing pictures of everyone else's receptions!!

http://video.aol.com/video-search/query/MGM%20terrace%20suiteHere are some of those videos I found online. Some are better than others. Personally I was pretty excited after watching them. And I know it's only going to look so much better when we actually go there.

Does anyone know of a day of wedding coordinator that would be reasonably priced in the Las Vegas area? I'm really just looking for someone to decorate the suite on the day of and do some little things on the day of the wedding. Any ideas?

Do you have any guests that would be able to do it? I know that may sound cheesy....but who better to decorate for you than someone who knows you? Or what about having your bridesmaid come in early and do some setting up? Take advantage of the resources you have haha.

This is my exact wedding plan also! Myself and my girlfriend are getting married with the Terraza package and having a reception for 35 guests in a Terrace Suite! To answer the question about Terrace Suite decoration, the MGM do not decorate it in any way so best organise this yourself before hand.We are going all out with plenty of food and a cake ordered from the MGM along with an open bar and bartender.I would hate to have any problems feeding guests or organising drink which is a large possibility if you are trying to sneak food in.

John and Suzanne, what month are you guys getting married? Do you know what your going to do for music? Your right about sneaking in food and beverages, it would be a pain to make sure you had enough. I have found some great ideas for decorating the suite, are you guys decorating yourselves before hand or having a day of coordinator. Thanks for responding.

We are getting married in November. Not sure about getting someone in just for decorations. Still no ideas for decorating though, will try look that up this week. As it's just close family and friends I'm hoping our ipods will be good enough for music - think i read that there is an ipod dock in the suite?I read someones review of a party in a Terrace Suite and they said there was no problem getting their own food and drink to the room - MGM staff even helped with the beer!I still think for peace of mind we will do everything through the MGM, it is our wedding after all, no point trying to save a few dollars! I will try keep this thread updated if you'd like, let you know how we are getting on etc...?

I'm getting married there on 9/19/09 - we're doing a chapel ceremony and an in-suite Terrace recpetion. We decided to go with catering through the MGM - it just seemed like more hassel than it was worth to try and sneak in food and drink for 50 people. I'm actually working on putting together some decoration ideas over the next few days - I can put up pictures once I get something decent figured out. As for music, if you contact Guest Services, they can set up a speaker system w/iPod hookup for something around $75 for the night of your reception as well as bringing in extra tables and chairs. I think that their number is (702)891-3341. I have come to find that the wedding coordinators can be REALLY hard to get ahold of via email. I've had to send repeated emails to my girl over the course of a few weeks in order to get one response. I finally called yesterday and spoke to a supervisor (we're nearly a month out and needed to set our final decisions, but I couldn't get our planner to call or email me back).

We have Kerry looking ofter our wedding. She is very helpful but everytime we e-mail she seems to be on annual leave! I don't want to leave everything to the last minute so hope to get things confirmed myself in the next month or two. Kstatekate, have your ordered your food and drink yet? We are finding hard to know what to order and how much. The open bar does look good for our party as we have a lot of drinkers in the group...Also, have you sorted a wedding cake yet and if so from where? MGM sent me their cake list and the cakes look brilliant but no mention on prices anywhere.

We ordered our cake from Freed's Bakery. It looks awesome and I hear they are really good. Are you giong through the MGM for your food and drink? We opted for Masterpiece Cuisine to deliver and we're just going to go out and get alcohol. It was a LOT cheaper.

We were told we could not bring in food and drink from outside the MGM. I know people have done so but for peace of mind and convenience I don't mind paying extra to get the food through MGM. We are just getting a load of different cocktail foods.

I just put up a post about the WC Kerry from the MGM Grand...in case anyone has been using her....
