Mandalay Bay Buffet? or any other buffets?

We are thinking about the Mandalay Bay for our rehearsal dinner.  I was curious to know if anyone has used this location and how everything went?  Right now, they say that we have to pay an extra $175 to reserve an area for our group, but they also said that the area is not guaranteed.  Beyond that, we have to pay a 20% gratuity even though we will serve ourselves at the buffet (besides drinks).  They told me that was Union policy and their employees are with the Union.Has anyone experienced any of this when using the buffets?  Any information would be really helpful!  Thanks so much!

Wynn doesn't charge you a fee to reserve an area but you have to pay for 20 people up front when you make the reservation.  They also charge 20% gratuity.  The gratuity is because you need the servers to clean up the table.  I understand what you mean that in buffets, you get your own food, but the servers still clear up your tables for you and fill up your drinks so they still deserve a tip.

20% is standard at any buffet for groups on the strip. I'm doing Mandalay Bay for my day after brunch. They charged me a BS $200 site fee, but they did say they would guarantee the area.

Thanks for the input ladies.  I agree we should pay a tip, but usually, we pay about 10% at buffets since the servers don't do as much as they do at regular restaurants.  Plus, at 10% a person at Mandalay, it would still come out to be $3/person.  That's interesting that they told you they would guarantee the area.  The person I'm working with said she couldn't guarantee it and I'm afraid they will give it away.
