PSA - My photographer is holding a contest!

My wonderful photographer, Aria Images Photography (clicky) is holding a wedding photography contest! All the details can be found on her Facebook page (HERE) but in summary, she is offering 6 hours of wedding coverage, up to 700 proofs on disk including up to 150 retouched images and full printing rights to a lucky couple! She's located in Wilmington and is willing to travel (I know she's done wedding in Raleigh). All you need to do is email her a pic of you and your FI and a short story as to why you deserve to win the free wedding photography.

We absolutely love her as a photographer and the couple who wins this is very, very lucky! I cannot recommend her enough.

Never understood why some photographers are willing to work for free. Nobody else goes to work and volunteers to work over 40 hours for free....which is how much time can be involved in shooting one wedding.

It's possible the photographer is wanting to get their name out / get more exposed? Some also just like offering services to those who might not always be able to afford them, especially in todays economy. That's all I can really think of.

Less experienced photogs are more willing to work for less or free to portfolio build. I cant think of any good reason an experienced photog would do it, unless they are having a rough year and desperately need more bookings/exposure :)

I see your hesitations but having personally worked with her I can tell you, it's just marketing. She used to work in NYC but recently moved to NC so she's trying to get her name out locally. She's experienced and a wonderful photographer who loves what she does. Think about it this way - if she gets the word out about this promotion, that's more brides looking at her website that may not have previously looked. They might miss the contest deadline or might not win. However, they still might like her photography and book a meeting with her and eventually book her for a wedding. It's really no different than those companies that offer Groupon deals or VP with all their free offers. You need to find anyway to get your name out there and direct more traffic to your website.

Anyways, I just wanted to let other brides who may be on a tight budget the opportunity to work with a photographer for free that I gladly would have paid a lot more for.
