How early for Save The Dates?

I'm just curious... how far in advance did you send your Save The Dates (for those of you who aren't local)? I'm thinking of sending mine pretty early... about 11 months in advance. I think my guests will need all the advance notice they can get!

I sent mine around 8 months....For the same reason...More than enough time for people to plan.

I sent my STD's out 6 months before the wedding and I'll be sending the invites out in a few weeks.....earlier than what "etiquette" states...but I just really want to mail them already :)

I sent our STDs about 8 months out.  Basically as soon as we had the date set they were in the mail!

We sent our magnet STDs around 10 months out. If I did paper STDs, I probably would not have sent them that far out.  I'd be afraid people would lose them!  Everyone loved our magnets, and it is a reminder on their fridge.

We sent ours about 6 months in advance. I think for a destination wedding, the earlier you can send them is the better. That way, the people who really want to go can start planning as soon as they'd like. There's probably some "typical" time, but I figure as long as it's within a year of your wedding taking place, it couldn't hurt to send it.

I've always seen 6-8 months as the standard for save the dates.  We're sending ours out at ~8 months before since everyone will be travelling.  They're magnets, so we're hopuing they wont get lost!

6 to 8 months etiquette says for destination weddings. i think if you do it earlier...like within the 8 to 12 that is appropriate.I've seen some people say they are sending them out as early as 2 years...only problem with that is things can change so much in 2 years. Even just changing wedding plans or dates!

We sent our magnets out at 10 months, but at our engagement party in January we told everyone we were going to Las Vegas in May 2010 so everyone knew right away.Funny thing is, I haven't heard from anyone about our magnets! I guess they didn't like them...FI's dad didn't even know what they were for. :-(

SunnyCanadian - LOL...I love some people's reaction to these wedding traditions... such as your FI's dad not knowing what Save The Dates are for. To be honest, I think I'll get the same reaction from my FI's dad as well. Actually, since we're getting married in Las Vegas, it seems like people are surprised that we're even doing these traditions. I don't get it.

SunnyCanadian....I had to laugh at your comment about not knowing what the STD's were for. I had a similar situation. Our STD's look like concert tickets....FI's dad emailed saying that he "...lost the ticket to get into the reception..." and asked what he should do... We put "The King's Queen" and "The Queen's King" on the top of each STD....a little fun reference to playing cards/Vegas. Well FI's dad emailed him again asking him "....where in Vegas are these chapels located?" Oh dear lord.

LOL okay I'm glad I'm not the only one!!! Another thing about our STD's...I had to also explain to FI's parents that there is a WEBSITE as well...did they not read the STD? Maybe I should've included instructions with them:Step 1: Take out card from envelopeStep 2: Read the card and unattach the hard plastic square from it.Step 3: Place hard plastic square on fridge. Its a MAGNET! Fancy that!Step 4: Find website address on card and go to your computer, type it in and view.Ta-da!!!

SunnyCanadian - I worry about people not knowing about the website as well (despite the URL printed directly on it). I'm thinking of doing a postcard STD, but inside an envelope. Then, I'm going to print a separate little square with website URL info and put that inside the envelope. Maybe having something separate from the actual STD will make people take notice? We'll see!

LOL!! OMG!!...I feel better that I am not the only one who had to explain the Magnet STD to people....And...I also wonder if anyone is paying attention to the fact that I also included the Web Site??? I was hoping for a few early RSVP's...Oh well...

Sunny....I agree with directions needed sometimes....but would some people even understand that? lol We're including a guest info. card that clearly states 'For more info visit our wedding website..."  It's about as detailed and direct as you can get for these people. But I know we're going to get those phone calls and emails where I'm going to respond with "That would be located on our website." haha
