Reception @MB Convention center?

Hello all!I know a number of you are having an in-suite reception at MB but I was wondering if anyone had booked (or tried to) in the convention center? Actually I have 2 questions, can I have a full scale recpetion - cocktail hour, sit down dinner and DJ/dance floor in a suite? That seems like too much to me.I thought I would ask cuz I haven't had much luck with MB's catering manager.  She was supposed to book a ballroom and I hadn't heard for her for 2 weeks so I contacted her and asked and she said the convention center was booked when she tried to do it for me.  I emailed her 2 weeks ago and gave her some alternative dates for a reception and I still have not heard from her. My mom, who is paying for the reception, wants me to pursue it further before we book somewhere else. Just wondering if anyone else thought the catering manager at MB was inept. TIA

We are having our reception in one of the ballrooms.  At first when we tried to book it, they were all full. We are getting married in March, so they offered for us to have the reception in the Beach Casino (its closed in the off season) I just talked to the catering dept this week, and we got lucky that one of the ballrooms opened back up.  So, we are having a cocktail hour, and sit down dinner for our guests.  DJ too!Who have you been talking with?  I have been dealing with Cheri Gold, the manager of the catering dept and she's been great.  Please, let me know if you need help or ideas.  I've had really good experiences with MB so far.

Thanks D&J!I've been dealing with Cheri and she's a nice person but she makes me want to pull my hair out.  I'm getting married in June. When she told me all the ballrooms were booked she suggested 4 Seasons or some Italian restaurant.  I just get the feeling from her that she has more important things to do than deal with my reception.

A lot of ladies have restaurant receptions and it tends to be much cheaper and better service all the way around. Just something for you to consider if MB doesn't pan out.

We looked into a ballroom at Mandalay Bay, but then chose Fleur de Lys after meeting with Kathyrn from group dining.  Your wedding coordinator can give you the contact info for special events.  Their office is located on the second floor, essentially right above THE Chapel.  They had lots of good info for us when we met with them.

If you're looking for a big full scale reception, I'd do it at Four Seasons instead. Granted I'm biased, but we're having our welcome dinner and goodbye brunch at Mandalay Bay and the service level at Four Seasons is SO MUCH BETTER. No comparison. It's also much prettier and better set up for weddings than trying to do something at a convention center.
