What to do between ceremony and going out

I'm needing some ideas of what to do between our 1pm cereomony and going out around 9.

We can't afford buying dinner for 100 people so we are doing cake and campange after  the ceremony.  I feel like we need to have something planned between that and having dinner somewhere.  

I think it's going to be the immediate family having dinner.  Should I inivite people to join but let them know they are on their own?

I think we are going to have a party bus pick anyone who wants to go out.  We are paying for that and club entry fees.

Can anyone help me with some ideas?

I'm having the SAME issue my ceremony and photos for family ends at 3pm and the reception doesnt begin til 6pm. Have you looked into the double decker bus? Look it up.I couldnt do it since I have to help set up my insuite reception.

We are in a similar situation.  We have the cermoney that ends at 11:30am  and our reception isnt' until 5PM.  After the Ceremony, the bridal party will be going through In and Out drive through then take photos on Fremont street, Las Vegas sign, Bellagio and Paris.  We then plan to hang out at Cosmo for drinks until the reception.  Figure taking photos at any of these locations will kill off an hour at each stop.

Some of our guests have rented the double decker bus and are taking the tour to kill the time, but I'm not aware of the details.

Instead of paying for people to go out, spring for dinner.  I think that a destination wedding calls for more than just cake and champagne.  If you can't afford it, invite fewer people.  They are spending more money (and time) than they would if you were at home so you should receive them accordingly.  Many people around here have done VERY affordable receptions at buffets or restaurants like Maggiano's and Lucille's.

Please don't invite people and tell them that they can join you for dinner on their own dime.

Shorten your guest list. If people have to travel hundreds of miles to witness your wedding, you really need to treat them to more than just cake.
Their are many lower priced options out there. I catered my rehearsal dinner with Jason's Deli and a bunch of bottles of wine and beer that I bought at the liqueur store. the portions were HUGE and we had lots of leftovers.
Buffets are also another option. Th M Resort does a buffet for about $25pp and includes beer & wine.
I also know of a few other restaurants that have meal plans that start at $19.95.
