Anyone familiar w/ Mandalay Bay room blocks? Or room blocks in general?

Before I call them, I want to see if anyone here is familiar with room blocks at Mandalay Bay. I have 15 rooms reserved (10 at MB, 5 at THEhotel-adjoining hotel). Currently what they quoted me is way cheaper than any online deals I looked at right now.

My concern is that I will most likely have around 40-45 guests, so I'm afraid the 15 rooms won't be enough (the reason why I only did 15 is because I figured some people will book on their own instead if they find a better deal, or go to different hotels).  If all those 15 filled up, will those extra guests not get the group rate? Will the hotel let me know if the bookings have exceeded 15?

I'm thinking of changing that to 20, but my other concern is that if there are cancellations, will I be responsible for paying for those unused nights? The lady on the phone initially told me if there are rooms left that aren't booked, they will just release it and I won't be charged. But on the contract, it said otherwise (unless I read it wrong).

Does anyone know how any of this works? Please help!

  • They just release the un-booked rooms and you are not charged. They will send you an update on how many rooms in your block have been booked. Most people stay wherever they want in Vegas, it seems.

I had a room block but found that using promo codes was even cheaper so we didn't book any rooms at all through our block and only about 10% of our guests stayed at the MB. Everyone else was dispersed around the strip and it was fine.
  • When my wife and I did a room block with Mandalay, we were not required to sign anything, we just told them the number of rooms, they gave us a code and told us the rooms would be released at 30 days out.  I believe we blocked 30 rooms because I had a coupon code that was far lower than the rates they used for the block so I figured most of our guests wouldn't use it (125 guests).  They didn't require anything special for a 30 room block but I'm sure there's some point at which they'd require money.

  • I didn't sign anything either, what I meant was the booking letter, not contract.

    Thank you both!

  • I am getting married at Mandalay Bay and I have a 10 room block at Mandalay Bay and a 10 room block at The Hotel.  I received 20% off the rate that was showing online at the time I blocked the rooms.  Since then, the online cost has gone up but my room block price is firm.  My rates were really cheap Sun-Wed at MB at $56, Thursday at $70 and it does go way up on Friday & Saturday to $160--but my wedding is on a Thursday so some guest are leaving Friday. My reception is in the Stardust Suite at the Orleans and I have a 10 room block there too--those rates were ridiculously cheap and their resort fee is only $6---most of my guest are staying at MB/Hotel or Orleans with a few here and then further down the strip due to free rooms etc....Now i'm just hoping for some discount codes for the Vista Suite--I have it for my meet and greet reserved through the chapel but it's about $360 or so....

</div><div>$360 for the Vista Suite? That's awesome.  I got it for $480 and $540 (w/ the MB Chapel discount), but that's for Fri and Sat. I already put a deposit down for the first night, but I'm wondering if I can cancel my reservation if I find a cheaper rate for the Vista suite through some other online source/promo codes and re-book again through that?
