Oh my! That is pretty vile. I get it - I know some guys talk like this - locker room talk if you will - but if you are that type of person, you should at least have some shame about you to make sure your mic is off! Jerk!

I'm sure my opinion will be in the minority but chances are that two, most likely single, guys that live out of hotel rooms because of a love for flying planes have a somewhat likely chance of talking like that regardless of what everyone might expect. Yes, he should be reprimanded by the FAA, possibly fined as I'm sure it violated some code of conduct, but I hope he doesn't end up fired and I think the flight attendents union filing a discrimination charge against southwest is completely f'ing stupid, a waste of their union members money, a waste of court time and money, etc.

Yes the guy's an a-hole, so are a lot of people, and they end up disliked, but he could be quite a good pilot outside of this screwup. I know a few pilots who are going through the one or two decade process of flying small charters, city to city hops, etc., having no life, sitting in $40/night interstate hotels until they fly back out, getting paid jack, all in the hopes of getting to heavy jet co-pilot where they'll sit for another five years waiting to get enough hours to be captain and then finally making a salary that could support a family if they were to have one. This guy going through that and then having his career taken away from him because of one mistake would not be a fair punishment. Twice sure, but I think best to just chalk him up as being an a** this time around.

You're right. He is an asshole...

An asshole who in his first year at SWA as a First Officer made over 60k, his 5th year made 122k, and will retire making over 200k. He stays at hotels like Embassy Suites, Sheraton, and Crowne Plaza in places like White Plains, NY, Las Vegas, Miami, and San Fransico. He also gets $2.15/ hour per diem (beer money) and 17 days off a month. He and his family enjoy flying on SWA for free.

He is an asshole that spends the majority of his workday sitting in a cockpit drinking coffee, doing crosswords, and apparenttly making disgusting, bigoted, and chauvinistic remarks about his coworkers.

ETA: Sorry to go off on a rant, but as a former flight attendant (and former girlfriend to a lying, cheating airline pilot) this just really irks me....

There are so many nice, good guysand gals that are pilots! Pieces of shiit like this guy just give them all a bad reputation.

It takes a lot of years making nothing to get to that point unless you're ex-military, and then either way you're forced to retire at a certain age. I'm not arguing that he's a nice guy, just that he doesn't deserve to be fired over it since that would pretty much end his career except doing no name flights for $20k/year. Based on the length of the conversation, I'm going to assume the pilot was as involved in the convo as he was, he just had the luck of not being the guy that has to contact air traffic control.

My college roommate is a pilot; calls his wife for hours each day when he's not home, so I agree he gives them a bad name, but there are a lot of guys like that regardless of profession.

Well I'm in aviation (not a pilot). Sometimes your mic is on but you just don't realize it. That's why you try to watch what you say.
I have to agree that most pilots (not all) don't make a lot of money. Most of them think they're god's gift to women because they think girls get off on the whole pilot thing.

It's a shame that this guy is going to make most pilots look bad.
I'm sure he'll just get suspended and that should be that.

Maybe if this guy spends so much time in bars, he should just save this kind of talk for those bars! :)
I think the thing that cracks me up the most is that he talks like he's a stud. He's probably 5'0 and not very attractive at all.

I don't care where you work, you save talk like this for the bar with your buddies.
