Girl, save yourself some stress and ship her to Debi at Fit for a Bride.  She will be well taken care of.

I'm not being paid by Debi, I promise.  Smile

I know shipping charges vary greatly but how much did it cost for those of you that shipped it and where did you ship it from? My dress is in Florida and one of my bridesmaids has offered to bring it but she will be seven months pregnant and I really don't want her to have to deal with all that.

I carried my dress on our SW flight. There was no place to hang it, but I did get an entire overhead bin so I could lay it without getting wrinkled. I brought a travel steamer with me, but did not need it. I would suggest double bagging your dress as a precaution since it has to go thru xray at security gate and bag could tear or it could get caught on something else.

I carried my dress onto a SW flight as well.  I did not have the luxury of having an overhead bin to myself, however found space without an issue and the staff onboard were very helpful.  I had my dress pressed at Mandalay Bay for $15???  Worked out FANTASTIC!

I think it is a lot cheaper to go this route and I was comforted that my dress was with me at all times.

Thanks ladies!! I think I will just mail it to Debbie!! i just didnt want to spend 50.00 to mail it! But oh well.. Because of the material it really wont need to be steamed or pressed. So I wonder how much she will charge me..

I think I paid about $30 with delivery confirmation USPS - I wanted to be able to track it.  It didn't have to travel far from CA to NV.  It was one less headache and worked out well since our flight was packed, also Southwest.

I carried mine on the plane (Continental). I received this tip from a Knottie and I will share it with a story:

Double, even triple bag your dress!

When I got on my first flight, the attendant had no problem storing it in the pilots closet. When she was putting it in or getting it out, the bag got snagged on something and there were a couple of small rips. Fortunately, I had 3 bags on that sucker, so it was no issue (rip only went through 1st bag). On my second flight, they had no room in the closet for it, but the attendant gave me an overhead compartment to myself for it.

I had no idea it would be this reasonably priced!  I keep debating what to do about mine, but I was imagining spending like $150 on shipping and I wasn't sure it was worth it.  $30-50 would definitely be worth not having to lug that sucker around the airport.

Vfriday/Dionne -   did you/will you buy a box to use or what kind of packaging did you do?

I shipped my dress by UPS Ground from Tennessee to California for $64. Most of the price was where I added $900 insurance on it. I also had tracking and signature service added for that extra bit of comfort.

Insurance and box size are what really drive the cost up for UPS/FedEx since they charge you based on 'dimensional weight' which factors the size of the box in as well.  My wife took her dress on the plane and bought an extra seat for it (Southwest) and it ended up only being about $130 because of how early we had bought our tickets to Vegas; that was about half what it would have cost to UPS it with the insurance factored in.  In either case Debi came and picked it up and brought it back perfect the next day.
