Shower invite question

Hi, all -

Who did (will) you invite to your bridal shower?

We only have 50 guests that we're inviting to the wedding, and 75% of them don't live in my hometown.  Since our list is so small, I feel comfortable sending them to everyone since probably only 10 people will be able (in town) to come.  I want them to know I'm thinking of them and wish I could spend time with them, even though it's logistically VERY improbable that they will attend.

Also, this is a dumb question... do you invite people who decline the wedding invitation?!

TIA!

Re: Shower invite question

  • I invited ALL the females that recieved an invite to the wedding.  My situation is very similar to yours.  Many of the ladies live very far away from me and it would be impossible for them to make it to the wedding but, most like to know that they were thought of.

I invited a lot more people so I picked 20ish friends and family. Those friends I was closest with.
  • Yeah, we had a larger wedding guest list too so just the close friends / family were invited. An invite was sent to SIL & MIL even though I knew they couldn't travel here, I just wanted to make sure they felt included.

  • from what I have seen, most women only invite their close friends and family. Every female that makes the wedding list isnt necessarily close enough to the bride to be invited to the shower. Since my wedding is only close friends and close family, its pretty simple for me

  • I declined showers (because I hate them) but also because we are having such a small wedding, I felt bad not being able to invite all my aunts, since they weren't invited to the wedding.

Anyways if I was having a shower i would have invited those that I knew couldn't attend the wedding because just because they can't attend the wedding dosen't mean that they might not be able to attend the shower.  And for your other question about inviting all of the people to the shower that you invited to the wedding...If I remember correctly, you are having a pretty decent sized DW wedding, but still relatively small.. I would have invited them all just because it would be hard to pick and choose and some people actually enjoy wedding showers! :)

Side question:  Do you have a lot of stuff to do yet?  Did most of your families book? I can't believe aifare from MSP to LAS - it is ridiculous!!!

  • Oh, forgot about the last question - friend's who RSVP'd no to the wedding were invited to the shower - they came as well...

  • Yes I'm inviting people who can't attend  the wedding, sorry missed that question.

    Thanks, ladies!!  That really helps.

@Amber - I also hate "typical" showers (games and the spectacle).  My Man of Honor, who is hosting, is planning a low-key brunch at a local restaurant I love...  which is super exciting for me.  I went to a shower recently where about 50 (!!) people attended.  It lasted for almost 7 hours.  I love her, but ugh!

A lot of our people have booked, but some are procrastinating.  The MSP people keep thinking the flights will go back to that $275 range, but they're just NOT.  It's been stuck at $385 RT forever.  :(

I only have a couple big checks left - bus for after the reception (waiting for RSVPs to know how many will need it), seating chart, play/do not play list...

You're leaving SOON!  Are you getting excited? :)  Where are you staying?
  • We had/have two showers-- for my bridal shower that was thrown by my mom and BMs, they only invited local family in NY.  For our upcoming "engagement shower" (couple's shower, I think) thrown by our in-laws, they're only inviting their local family in TX.  There's still a big chunk of our wedding guests who didn't happen to fall into the NY or TX categories (our friends and coworkers in CA, other family across the country) so they didn't get invited to either shower.
  • WTH happened to all the posts in this thread?!  LOLz, TK.  LOLz.

I hope all is going well with your planning, L!! :)

I had this long response to Amber (who posted in here, too).  DUMB!

SERIOUSLY!  I'm so geeked.  We're both super excited to be so close.

(As I said to Amber in my reply, grr) I have a couple bigger checks to still finish - transportation after the reception (still waiting for RSVPs for that), seating chart, play/do not play list... I'm honestly more concerned about moving FI here at this point!  How about you?

I had my first REAL fitting on Saturday - it was SO exciting :)
  • Ooh how fun!  I've got my last fitting on April 18th so I'm biding my time. :) I agree, getting your FI moved there trumps all the other stuff!

RSVPs are starting to come in so that's exciting...I just had a conference call with MB catering last week and am meeting with my external wedding coordinator (day-of coord, bringing her with me from CA) next week, so the details are coming together!  I still have to do some one-of things (book limo transportation for our strip tour, do seating charts, etc) but we're getting there.
