NWR: I need help with a gift idea! :)

Alright. . so we're going to FI aunts house for Thanksgiving, but we're doing the gift exchange now instead of Christmas because they wont be up north for Christmas.

They do gift boxes, like themed boxes. Last year FI got a nice pan, pancake mix, eggs and bacon for a 'breakfast box' (well, thats the box he recieved).

I can't come up with a theme. . my creativity is done for after this week due to stress. . any suggestions? Its a $20 limit too.

P.s. We won the doggie battle. . Lucy doesnt have to go to a kennel! Laughing

ooo that's so fun!  You could do a movie gift box and put a blockbuster giftcard in there and some popcorn and movie candy and wrap it all in a popcorn bowl.

Yay! Lucy gets to be included. :) I was going to say today- I talked to FI and we usually host dogs during the holidays when one of our friends goes away. She's not going away this year so we have room in our house if you needed a free option. :)

Hmm, a theme box... do you have a particular person you are getting a "gift box" for? Or do you have to do several?

I've done a tea-party gift in the past (different kinds of tea, scone mix, homemade cookies, jam, a cute book on throwing a tea party) for a friend. I also read somewhere about a James Bond gift- a couple DVDs or books wrapped in a bow-tie, maybe a mini-fake pistol and a martini-shaker and cocktail olives?

Krispy I was actually JUST thinking that right before I reopen-ed this thread HAH!  Would you do like a $10 gift card and then put like popcorn and candies in it?

the gift is part of an 'elphant gift game' . . I have noo idea. . its pretty much a gift swap where you can steal others boxes. . I think everyone has played some kind of version of it during their life :)

CJ thats soo sweet of you!! If anything changes, I'll let you know :)  I was so worried about kenneling her because she doesnt like to eat when she's nervous or away from us, plus shes sort of quirky in the -Im a basset hound and my body is pretty much a giant nose- way  :)

Ooo then I like the movie-gift-box idea- more versatile, more people will like it. :)

Hahaha so true about the giant nose! We usually have my friend Erin's basset during the holidays and he's like, the funniest thing. Izzy doesn't know what to make of him, he'll lie on his side snoring all day and she'll just sit there watching him like "if I stare at you long enough maybe you'll want to play... WHAT is that noise you just made?"

Yeah I was thinking $10 - that will get at least two movies (depending on what they pick out).  OH and a bottle of coke or something in there too would be fun (or like, two 20 oz. bottles)

    Yay for Lucy!

I really like the movie themed box too.
Or maybe a "game night" with a game and snacks or something.

Ugh. . so apparently 'Movie Night' has been done before and people didn't like it because they don't go to Blockbuster *Sigh*

I might still go with it though since I really like the idea.
For some reason I feel like I need this awesome idea since this will be my first year participating in the festives (I was there last year, but didn't know I needed to get a gift. . wasn't told or something)

Lucy is hilarious! She'll sleep most of the day and then bounce up and go crazy all of a sudden *spurt of energy*
I will admit though, watching her come down our stairs is the funniest thing of all. . she just kind bounces down them because her legs are too short to walk down them like a normal dog :)

oh darn!  well another idea would be to do an NC gift basket and fill it w/ a bunch of NC food items - hot sauce, hushpuppy mix, cheerwine, etc.  my mom has done that before and it's pretty popular.

Maybe a summer beach party box?  I did this for a friend last year: sunscreen, ice tea and lemonade mixes, a blowup beach ball, a beach towel, some summery candies and treats.  You could tell them it's to help them think a the warmer days to come :)

I did a pasta night present before.  I went to world market and got the shaped christmas pasta, sauce, olive oil, breadsticks and put it all in a colorful strainer...........you could add a bottle of wine if they drink wine.  Make like a little pasta dinner gift!  I gave that to several family members a few years ago, it was cheap (under $20) and a hit!

Picturing Lucy come down the stairs has made my day.

    Maybe a winter theme?
Stuff like hot chocolate mix, cider mix, a cool mug, cookie mix, a "toboggan" (NC lingo for a knit hat)

I love the italian/pasta box idea. I would def pick that!
You could go to one  of the wine stores in the area, they have tons of sales on wine all the time!

    Guy related...

Maybe a golf theme: tees, golf balls, gift card to a driving range, maybe a cool club cover if they have their own clubs

Or basketball theme since that season is starting up, maybe if the whole family pulls for 1 team or something
  • edited December 2011
Oh a poker theme would be a big hit with my FI, Grace!  That would be pretty easy: poker chips, deck of cards, maybe a cigar, snacks, drinks

Ohhh - I love the idea of the chips, deck of cards, etc.

He loves cigars too, so that would be perfect.
