Invite timing

Hey, all :)

So I had the usual 6-8 week plan for our invites, as we'd sent STDs at the 9 month mark.

However, my timing is screwed up for a few reasons and I could use your help!

-Wedding is May 19th
-I am out of town starting May 5th (so I need to get final counts/deposits before I leave)
-half our guests are from Canada, so we need enough time to get the invites to them and back to me (usually takes 2 weeks one way)

I was thinking of sending the invites March 1st with an April 15th RSVP date.  That would give me a 2 week buffer for the Canadians, plus a week to call people.

Thoughts?

TIA!

Re: Invite timing

  • I think that's okay. I've read the standard is 6-8 weeks but up to 10 weeks out is acceptable. I'm sending ours out the first week in February for our April 15th wedding (RSVPs due March 12th).
  • I think it is fine, I would rather send them a bit earlier for a destination wedding. I think Vegasgroom sent his in January for a June wedding?? Plus, it gets people on the horse to start booking travel if they already haven't before the prices jump...

  • FWIW, I'm doing pretty much the same thing-- actually going to go for last week of February, I think, for an April 7th RSVP date.  Since you've got all out of towners like me, I feel like people will know at that point whether or not they're making the trip. :)
  • I am sending mine the 1st or 2nd week of February with a April 15th RSVP date.  Wedding date May 21st.  I figure the more time people have to think about it the better.  My guests and I are all travelling.

I am doing this timeline as well. Invites out early feb with a March 9 RSVP date. I think its fine. They have STDs so they know its coming too and are probably going to make a decision by then.

Thanks, ladies!  I didn't want to go all "special snowflake" on you... haha!  I'm glad I'm not the only one making it a little earlier.  I just wanted to make sure I had enough time to get them all back and call stragglers before I leave.

I appreciate your help as always :)
  • I also sent mine a little early...  I had them all together it was just way to hard to hold on to them!  Plus I was sick of getting people asking me when what where who ... and all those random questions even though I did STD's with a wedding website... My RSVP date was also a smidge early but whatever people should know if they are coming or not fairly early .... since it is a DW.

Have your invites come in yet?

Dude, I've had 5 separate people ask me this week about hotels.  They apparently didn't read the website at all, as I have a huge disseration on what hotel to book, how, when, etc.  *headdesk*

They will be here this week - a friend of mine is making them.  I'm SO excited! :)
