Ideas for entertaining guests during cocktail hour

Does anyone have creative ideas for entertaining guests during the cocktail hour? Any specific games, interactive ideas, etc? Thanks!

I think most guests entertain themselves mingling and meeting each other. You could give them a little activity like writing messages to the couple on keepsake cards, etc. I think as long as you provide drinks & maybe some finger foods your guests will be just fine for the time it takes for you to arrive at the reception.

We're either going to have photo scavenger hunt cards people can participate in or a quiz about us that people can ask each other the answers for.

I agree with OP.  Just have some finger foods and beverages and your guests will be fine.

I agree - we're going to do passed hors d'oeuvres and drinks. We may play a slideshow, but not one that demands attention of all the guests at the same time, just something that loops and gives them something to look at if they'd like.

I agree that you don't NEED to do anything.  But I have seen in a lot of wedding blogs lately where couples who have outdoor weddings with a grassy area will set up games like croquet or horseshoes or beanbag toss/cornhole for their geusts to play.  I think it looked like a fun idea if you have the location to do it!

You don't want to force them into any games or anything. Providing food and drink and space to sit/stand or mingle is enough.

During our cocktail hour, we had a slideshow of pictures going on two small flat screen tvs on the wall for people to look at.  We also had our e-pic guest book out for people to sign.  But, honestly, most people just enjoy picking up their place card and eating/drinking and talking to friends/family.
