Props to Total Rewards hotels

So my wife and I are already going back to Vegas for our one year in June but we were looking to vacation somewhere in March as well.  Long story short, after considering places around the Caribbean and Mexico, we're just doing Vegas instead.  Even better; I had some old Southwest coupons that expire soon so we're flying free on those.  With the $7.50 per person security fee, and the four drink coupons they just sent, we're already up by five dollars before leaving Tampa LOL.

Now the good part; specific to craps players.  Apparently MLife hotels (mandalay, thehotel, mirage, mgm, etc.) do not factor the odds bet into your average wager when computing how to rate your play.  Total Rewards hotels (caesars, flamingo, planet hollywood, etc.) do.  Suffice it to say, that can be a big difference for people who like to play craps and bet enough to get rated since if you play heavy odds, that can dramatically change your average bet from the casino's perspective.  I haven't stayed at a Caesars Group property in years but just based on play at a Harrahs in New Orleans one night last year, I got a much better offer from Total Rewards than what I got from MLife after staying at MB twice last year, so we're going to give them a try instead.

I tried my best to find something else we'd enjoy just as much but the price of traveling to the middle of nowhere, the fact that we never do any excursion type stuff, means we spend quite a bit of money on hotel and travel and still don't get as nice a room, or as great a variety of incredible food options, as you do in Vegas.  It's hard to resist.  And with no cost for the plane or hotel, now we have lots of party/gamble money; maybe it will be one of those elusive trips where you come out ahead!

Viva Las Vegas!

Sweet! Sounds fun! I agree, my deals with Harrah's properties have been way better than MLife offers.. Plus the no resort fee is a big bonus as well..

Ah, yeah I forgot about that, the resort fee really pisses me off because at MLife properties I still have to pay that even if my room is comp'd, so it's like thanks for being our guest, here pay $25/day for bs you don't even intend to use.  Oh, and access to the gym is extra.  WTF

The resort fee in general is b.s., but especially in Vegas!  It doesn't really make sense to me that the gaming hotels charge this, because honestly, in most people's minds, that's most likely at least $50 less that you spend in the casino.  I chose the Paris resort (a Caesars Entertainment Group property) for my wedding based on price and aesthetic, but that no-resort fee is a huge factor into why we're staying there vs. another property nearby.

Yeah, resort fee feels the same way as checking in the airport and getting hit with luggage fees; they suck.

Yeah, and at least with the luggage fee they take the bags from you at the airport and put them on the plane and manage to get them back to you at the end of the flight.  These hotels don't really provide any extra significant services for that $25/night.  It's just essentially another tax on top of the state-mandated room tax, but a tax they get to pocket vs. pay out to some government agency.

Where did you decide to stay? Caesars just opened their newest town Octavius, it's gorgeous, their augustus tower is quite nice too.  Flamingo's Go rooms are nice too.

They offered either of those, I went with the Flamingo because they will be just finishing the rooms and we've never stayed there.  My wife also loves to play craps if it's $5 and Caesars rarely has less than $15 but Flamingo often has $5.  Actually one time we were walking through Flamingo in the morning and there was an empty table with a $10 sign; she tells the pit boss I'll stay and play if you make it $5 and he was like sure lol.  So they've been nice to us before.  We love Margaritaville too and having it within stumbling distance of the room will be a bonus.

I love the Go suites.  The only downside is that they dont have any that have a strip view but the gardens are stunning!

They just recently opened the Margaritaville Casino so you can enjoy the best of both worlds!  They renovated the hallway that between the Flamingo Casino and Margaritaville and turned into the margaritaville casino.

I think the new ones that are opening will.  They're supposed to be completing a bunch of them in January and February.

Yep, we checked that out on the site, I can't wait.  The craps table even has a Jimmy Buffet theme, the Come bet is the Come Monday bet (part of his it's 5 o'clock somewhere song) lol.

Awesome!  It's really good to know about the difference in craps betting (that's the only game I play).  We were planning to do most of our gambling/spending in MGM resorts, since we're also staying there... hoping it would make a difference.

Please report back on your trip :)

lol shows you how well I know Buffet songs; I didn't realize it was its own.  I only know cheeseburger in paradise and maybe two others.  I really just like the restaurant because you can get a margarita made only with booze and lime, no mix; I could drink those every day.
