Nevada-Las Vegas

XP: Vegas Help, Please!

My FI & I are going to Vegas for our HM (May 14th - May 20th). We haven't booked our hotel yet, but have it narrowed down to Mandalay Bay, MGM, The Mirage, NYNY, The Luxor, & The Flamingo. I'm so overwhelmed by all the reviews on the internet that I thought I'd ask you ladies for some help! Which of these hotels would you recommend? Stay away from?

Also, what shows would you recommend seeing? So far, we have tickets to LOVE & that's it. Should we consider seeing another cirque show? I would like to see Peepshow with Holly Madison! Yes, I'm a Girls Next Door Fan :) Has anyone seen that?

What restaurants would you recommend eating at? FI & I are willing to splurge on a few meals so some nicer suggestions as well as more casual suggestions are appreciated :) So far I've only heard that we MUST go to Margaritaville.

Any other suggestions or advice that you ladies have would be awesome! Neither of us have ever been to Vegas before, so this will all be new for us! Thanks!

  • Mandalay Bay is the newest out of all of those, but Flamingo is a great location and I think they are fully renovating all their rooms. I have never stayed at either but would go with one of those. LOVE is sooooo amazing, you will not be disappointed. I have also seen Peepshow and it was not worth my time or money. I like Holly Madison too, but she was so awkward in it. STK is my fave restaurant so far, its a steak house at Cosmo. Fun and glamorous but not very romantic. We loved it, I was dancing in my seat! I want to try Wicked Spoon and The Burger Bar next. The weather is perfect in May! Have fun

  • I've never stayed at any of those places so, I don't have first hand suggestions on any of them. But, if you stay at the Mirage you should definitely eat at Stack, or even just when you go see Love. Actually, Stack and Love was our first date the first time we went to Vegas. The Top of the World at Stratosphere is very romantic and a great place for dinner. Mesa for lunch is very good. Spago is excellent as well. (Actually, all of Wolfgang Pucks restaurants are great). Oh, and if y'all like sushi there are tons of great sushi places. Good luck planning. Have a great honeymoon!!

  • I'm not sure if I'd consider Margaritaville a must go but it is pretty fun.  The food is about what you'd expect to find in a typical chain restaurant at typical prices; the real claim to fame for me, and why my wife and I find ourselves there several times per trip, is the 'perfect margarita.'  It's basically a margarita made the right way, with just liquor and lime juice, for about $10 and strong as hell lol.  If you're not into that kind of drink it's not really a standout place.

If you're going to splurge on food, the two places I'd try to hit would be Mix Restaurant at Mandalay and N9NE at the Palms; I love both of them.  They're in about the $80 to $90/pp range if you have a couple drinks.  At N9NE the surf n turf is incredible, at Mix I recommend the bison if they have it, but their menu changes quarterly.  Mix's view from 64 stories up is awesome, so ask for a balcony table if it's not too early in the day when it's still hot.

Some other on-strip places worth a visit would be Diablo's Cantina, you have to go by O'Sheas (somewhat rowdy drinking, cheap gambling, beer pong, etc. but always fun), the Caesars and Venetian malls for both shopping and dining and then the Stratosphere at the end of the strip whether for the view, rides or dining.  Try to hit Freemont Street (downtown) too, i.e. the real Las Vegas.

  • Of those choices, I'd definitely stay at Mandalay. You must eat at the Barrymore, visit downtown and eat at oscars, and see KA

  • I broke your post last time I posted so I am hoping I do not break again. I always manage to break everything =(

Out of those hotel options I would go with Mandalay Bay, it is the newest and nicest. Flamingo would be 2nd choice because they are renovating all rooms and the location is awesome!

I have seen Peepshow and it was not worth my time or money. I have also seen LOVE and it is so amazing, I would see it again.

My fav restaurant so far is STK in Cosmo, it is fun and glamorous but not really romantic. I also really like Serendipity's. I am hoping to try the Eiffel Tower restaurant, Wicked Spoon, Sugar Factory and The Burger Bar next trip.

Good luck planning and hope you have a great time!
