I know it breaks my heart! I'm hoping to get a piece of it at their auction though.

Will it be online?  I'd like to bid on some of their chips or something if they're selling all the stuff.

Tourists will stop visiting if they pull down all the originals! Its why most o/s visitors come...to see where the ratpack were and the gangsters and the old style hotels etc. I hate that everytime I go back the history has been replaced with huge mega casinos/hotels.

How pissed would you be to be moved to the circus circus! Especially if you booked it for the historic Vegas Hotel feel and you end up at the kids hotel!

When is it being pulled down? and what is replacing it?

At the time being, there is no plans to demo it. It's just being boarded up.

I don't think we'll see any more new construction in Vegas for a few more years, when the economy is a little better. Just my thoughts, I have nothing to backup this statement.

Not sure if I agree with that; if "most" o/s visitors came to see those places, they'd still be in business.  Most Vegas visitors come for conventions, and conventions generally prefer the perks the newer hotels offer them such as high tech resources, exhibit space, all-in-one offerings that keep the convention attendees able to stay in the same place for the event, entertainment, food, recreation, etc.  Second to conventions are vacationing people and I think most prefer to stay in one place for most of their activities, then have easy access to things when they do choose to leave.

I like the classic hotels as much as the next person but I also prefer to be on the strip and I like recently refreshed and modern accommadations.

i agree with vegasgroom on this one...but maybe im just too young! I didn't even know the sahara was where the ratpack hung out...until they mentioned it when they were closing it down. That area of the strip just felt so run down and beaten up in comparison to the other end.

I will be so sad if the Riviera goes away.  I love gambling there.  I guess I am just old school.  I just cannot spend my hard earned money at any of the casinos on the south end of the strip.  I used to play at the Boardwalk but they tore it down.  Casino Royale is good but it's usually SO packed you have to wait in line for a spot at a table.

As long as DT stays the way it is, I'll be cool, but if they start tearing those casinos down and putting up Mandalay Bays and Cosmopolitans, I'll have to find someplace new to go.

I said see not stay! Most of the older places have given up and the rooms are not upgraded and for the similar price visitor can stay in newer hotels so that is what they do.
