Bringing in your own cake for In Suite Reception

So we are getting married at the MGM and having our reception in the Terrace Suite.  I would really like to do the cake with an outside source to helpo save money and I would rather not have anyone from the hotel in the room with us.  Has anyone done this and were there any problems?  MGM is just so expenive for every little thing and I would rather use my budget for other things.  If you did have an outside bakery do the cake did you have it delivered or pick up?  Cant wait to hear what everyone has to say!

Hi! I am having my wedding also at the mgm, on may 15th this year. We are also doing an insuite reception When I signed the contract with mgm, they gave me a cake order form with pricing. About 3 weeks ago I went to place my order for a very plain simple cake. Based on their pricing sheet for approx 30 people I was expecting to pay about 250. Instead they quoted me 420, and again this was a small 2 layer very simple design cake. I was not happy with this as I feel their price sheet is misleading. The girl said if I wanted to obtain the same price as what was quoted on their cake price list, I only pick the accent colors, and it is up to the chep to design the cake, pick flavors, etc. That seemed really misleading. So instead I booked with lv cake designs, and with delivery, its 230, so I am saving 190 dollars.

I also am having my wedding at MGM, and the bakery originally  quoted me $300++, so I asked (thank goodness) what ++ means...it's $84 worth of gratuity and tax. And additional $45 for sugar flowers. So a grand total of $429!!! for a simple design two teir for 35 people. When I checked around at about 10 other bakeries in town the average price was $235 including tax and delivery.
I am definitely sold on bringing in an outside cake, I LOOOVE Gimme Some Sugar! But my concern is, what about plates and forks??? How are you handle that???

Thanks yall!!!.... Yea I was thinking we would just bring our own plates, napkins, utensils, etc.  It is ridiculous that they charge so much especially when you are bringing all your guests to their hotel.  Nicole keep me updated if you have any problems with the cake being brought in by an outside cater.  That is the main thing I am worried about.

I am not an MGM bride but looking at those cake prices is really scary. That's insane!

The bakers do this all the time so I'm sure it wont be a big deal at all. Good luck ladies!

Ya! Seems like a rip off, they charge about 200 over what other places charge. I'm sure some people out there don't know anybetter and pay it.

I'm getting married at MB, but we are having our cake delived by Cake Designs. I emailed pictures of my cake to a couple of different places, and I thought Cake Designs had the best price.
