Hi Everyone! (First Post)

Hi Everyone! Wanted to write my first post and say hello to all the brides to be in the North Carolina area :-)

My fiance (Josh) and I have been engaged for a year now and after a long and happy engagement, we are just starting the planning process. We originally wanted a destination wedding in a tropical location, but we have changed our minds and are now getting married in downtown Raleigh! We are both very non traditional, so we have decided on a lounge/restaurant for our ceremony and reception venue. We both could not be happier with this decision.

Is there anyone else from the Cary/Raleigh area? I would love to talk to other brides to be from the area!

Happy planning to everyone!

Samantha

Congratulations and welcome!  My wedding was in Charlotte and now I live in DC, so I'm no help, but just wanted to say the girls on here are great and you'll get lots of helpful advice :)  Happy planning!

Hi and welcome!  There are quite a few of us in the Triangle area.

Where have you decided to have your wedding?  When?  Do you like Chinese food?

I'm getting married in a restaurant in Raleigh.  I love the fact that they will set up and breakdown.  The table cloths may not be the color I want, and it may be paper napkins, but the cost is crazy low.

Raleigh person here.  Almost lifelong.  I got married May 7, but our reception was at The State Club.  We were out and about last weekend and saw a reception going on at 618 Bistro on Lake Boone Trail.  The downside is that we were watching from the Which Wich restaurant next door.  Definitely makes you think about looking at the surrounding venues.  It looked like a really pretty wedding from our vantage point, though.

Hey Girls :-) Thanks for the posts!
We are actually getting married at Solas. It is a restaurant and lounge in Downtown Raleigh. It actually turns into a nightclub on the weekends around 11, so we will be doing our wedding/reception way before that starts. Solas is beautiful inside and perfect for our non-traditional outlook on weddings. It has three floors, including a beautiful rooftop floor, which we both loved!

Pirategal03- I love chinese food! We are getting married May of 2012.

Hey Op! welcome to the board :)

Sounds like your planning is starting to get into full swing. Solas has been said to be really pretty for weddings :)

Just an offbeat comment. . .

I'm not sure if your username is using both your first & last name, but if it is, I would highly suggest changing it to something else. Especially since you've now disclosed where your wedding will be as well as the date :) Internet safety first!

If it isnt your name, game on :)

Good luck and I hope you find these boards very helpful! The ladies here are nice and full of great ideas and suggestions as well as honest opinions.

Mary. . I swear, every time you say Chinese, it's when Im hungry and can't figure out what I want. Then, I want chinese food. . . *sigh*

Whenever I'm hungry and can't decide what I want, I always assume Chinese food is the answer.  It's easier that way.

I've actually been on a Mexican kick lately, don't tell that to my fried rice dealer.

You can create an account to use just for the boards.  And still keep all the info and website you've set up under this account.

Hi Girls :-) This is Samantha- I changed my username!

Josh and I had a walk through with the event coordinator at Solas last night and we absolutely loved it. We put a deposit down and our wedding date is June 2nd, 2012. We originally wanted a May wedding, but since there is so much going on in May (Mother's Day, Graduations, Memorial Day), we decided to move to June :-)

Since I am not hiring a wedding planner, I am SO thankful for the event coordinator at Solas. She had a lot of great ideas and really seems organized, which is very important!

Solas is three floors. We will be getting married on the rooftop floor, then we will have the reception on the second floor.

I have a question for everyone. Has anyone who is already married or about to get married had a buffet style dinner? We do not want a sit-down dinner so we are thinking of a more casual approach with a buffet style. What do everyone think of that idea?

We did a buffet at our wedding and everyone loved it, especially the nacho bar we had set up for the cocktail hour.  Even the caterer was surprised at what a hit it was!

I will be doing the same. I am getting married on August 2012. I went to a wedding this May and they did plates instead of buffet and the food was not enough. the food portion is very small- it is more art. I hope this help you.
