Wedding certificate arrived!

Talk about speedy, I just ordered it on the Clark County Recorder's website Thursday and it arrived today.  Wifey got so excited she immediately went to the social security office and got her name change stuff done with enough time left over to hit the DMV before it closed; they said no good though, she needed either a tax return or her actual social security card to get a new license; somehow having the current license, her passport, the new name in the system and the print out from the SS office is not as critical as a little blue piece of paper lol.

Huh - all I needed was the marriage certificate and my ID. My issue was that I had to wait 24 hours for the SS change to be noted in the system...I guess each state is different. Awesome how fast it came though!

Yeah probably something dumb Florida requires; we like lots of useless legislation.

That was FAST!!! The DMV is such a pain in the butt. I swear they purposely make you go home 4 times before you get what you need to get done.

I also had to wait 24 hours after going to SS office to go to BMV. The guy at SS office told me I needed to bring my last W2 since I wouldnt have to SS card but they never even asked for it. But tell your W that I got my SS card in less than a week (I was told 14 buisness days).

Not sure if this has been asked.

Can we use the certificate that the officiant signed from our ceremony or should we order one from Clark County?

Pretty sure you need the official certificate from Clark County.  The one signed during the ceremony is for show...

Correct, yeah the one from the ceremony isn't official; you need the certified copy from the county since you're not officially married until your officiant turns the paperwork in (but he records the time of the ceremony so that part is right even if it isn't turned in right away).

To get a new driver's license you need:
    1. One of any of these: certified birth certificate, passport, certificate of naturalization, consular proof of birth abroad, or green card
2.one of  any of these: SS card, W-2 form, pay check showing SS #, any 1099 form
    3. Proof of residential address, Bring two: utility bill, vehicle registration with address, bank statements or have husband sign paper and bring bills with his name if they all go to him
    4. marriage certificate

Also, I tried to use a photocopy of SS card which is not allowed.  The SS office where you change you name can print a SS number verification form that you can use at the DMV so ask for it when you are there changing your name.  I had to go back to get it.

Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml

It must vary by state because for me, I didn't need the SS card - the name change just had to be on file with SS and it takes 24 hours to update in the system meaning I could have done it the next day.  I just needed my old driver's license or passport, the marriage certificate, and proof of physical address (we have a lot of small areas that don't have mail delivery to physical addresses, only P.O. boxes).
