Question on an over asked question...sorry

Marriage License / Certificate...

So I was told to wait 10 days from the day of the wedding before contacting Clark County for our marriage certificate. Once I do get it does anyone know the steps to making it legal in Canada?

Thanks!

Oh goodness, in Canada I do not know. I know here we have to go to the Social Security office first, then the DMV, but once you go to the DMV make sure to go to the bank so your ID matches your new bank card. But again, I am sure there is something different for Canadians.

I'm actually wondering the same thing.

    I found this
    http://international.gc.ca/about-a_propos/authentication-authentification_documents.aspx?lang=eng#A4

So now I'm freaking out. I thought we could go down there and get our LV marriage certificate and then come back up here and deal with it but if I'm reading this right, things need to be sent away beforehand?

Any other Canadians out there that can help?

Dont fret krismarie, I dont belive it will be that difficult. Once you have your license you can get married, after the ceremony the minister has 10 days to file it. After the 10 days we can mail a request for the marriage certificate to Clark County and they will mail it to us.

My question is once I have it who do I give it to here? Go through the government first? Change my name with them before anywhere else?

Phew. Okay. So still go ahead & get our marriage license from the courthouse in LV then, right?

I hope someone else responds with answers to your question!

Yes! The marriage license is needed at the ceremony and you do need to get that from Clark County! From there the minister will file it with the state of NV and you can get a certificate mailed - they will give you the paperwork on how to get it. My question is what to do from there up here :)

    Hi ladies!

I just got off the phone with the British Columbia Vital Statistics Agency.  The agent told me that as a Canadian, (residing in the province of BC) we do not need to register any paperwork in Canada.  The marriage will not be registered in BC, only in Nevada.  If you want to change your name, just bring your marriage certificate from Las Vegas with you so that you have some proof of marriage.

I hope this makes sense!  I don't have this in writing or anything, but it sure made me feel better knowing that there is nothing extra to do as far as paperwork is concerned.

Of course, every province is different, so if you aren't from BC you should double check with your provincial Vital Statistics Agency.

Thanks Robin! I just got off the phone with Vital Stats in MB and she said the exact same thing. I asked her if our marriage was any less authentic and she laughed and said no - that the groom couldnt get away :) LOL! For some reason I thought we had to register here! Yay for being friends with the US!

Sorry for the panic krismarie :)

Now for the name change...this site http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/lifeevents/marriage.shtml has the links for passport, healthcard, SIN ect for name changes.

That's awesome Miss!  Glad to hear that we got the same story...as you know, that's not always the case when it comes to dealing with government agencies!
It's a big load off huh?
The lady I spoke to laughed when I asked her that too!  LOL!  :)
WHEW!  Small panic attack is passing...

Hi ladies, I got married in Vegas last year, live in Calgary. There's definitely no need to register your marriage in any province in Canada - weddings in the USA are legal here. After your minister files the paperwork, you can check online at the Clark County office and have the official license mailed to you just like anyone else.

The bonus is that because it's a Vegas wedding, I didn't have to wait for the legal license to start changing my name, everyone thought the little certificate I got after the ceremony was the real one! :)
2 IVFs & 1 FET. Welcome home baby girl!

For the U S..... I went to the DMV and grabbed the papers to switch my name over, so as soon as my SSI card comes in I can change it. But the girl at the DMV told me that I don't need my SSI card to change it. Marriage license and she said something else but I can't remember. It won't matter though my SSI card will be here by the time I can get back to the DMV. They r closed before I get out of work 4 out of the 5 days. And I only work till 3:30! Lol maybe I should apply there. Just thought I'd mention that because I've been waiting all this time to change my name.
