looking for the perfect outdoor location...

Hi all.  :)  I moved to Western NC from Maine about 2 years ago.  My fiancee and my family are all still up north.  Our wedding will be ultra small - no more than 8 people.  I have in my mind exactly what i want but I haven't found it yet.  I would like a small grassy field with a tree i can hang a chandelier from and a nice long range mountain view in the distance.  I want to load a small round table with chairs into my FIL's truck and have our ceremony and elegant "picnic" style "reception" both in the same place.  i have not found a quiet grassy area with a tree and nice view of the mountains anywhere though.  I know there are lots of venues to rent but it seems like a waste of money to do so for about 6 people.  So if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it so much.  Thank you!  :)

Try your local parks and rec. They usually have various parks, cottages, etc. that could probably work.

There is a picnic area along the Blue Ridge Parkway called Doughton Park.  There is a small creek lots of trees and you should be able to see the mountains.

I am in Canton - near Waynesville and Asheville.  Thanks so much for your ideas so far!  I'll look into all of them.  :)

If you are near Waynesville, check out www.myersmountainhome.com  My fiance and I have been looking for a place where we can have our wedding and also spend our honeymoon.  If Myer's Mountain home is a bit much for you (it was for us), then check out www.stoneyhollowfarm.net  This is where we have decided to get married in October.  It is in Robbinsville (a couple hours away from us, we're in Hickory) but it will be worth the drive.  Click on vacation home on the site and you can see a few pictures, but we visited the place last week, and trust me the pictures do not do this place justice.  Plus, the price for a whole week is great!  Hope this helps   ;)

From what I've read, any of the parks along the Blue Ridge Parkway should be free for a group as small as yours. Price Park, just outside of Boone, has plenty of spaces with trees. There's a large flat grassy area that's great for picnics as well. I haven't spent as much time on the Parkway near Asheville, but Dupont Park might be an idea, or you could try talking to some of the summer camps. There are a ton of them, and as long as you are planning something during the camp off-season, they may be able to provide space. (If not ideas....) I hope this helps!
