Asheville Hair Salons & Cake

Help! I'm visiting in February and trying to set up appointments. Silly me thinking I had tons of time =) Two of the bakerys (Sister's Mcmullin and another one) are all booked up already and a lot of other places I've called are getting close to full.

Does anyone know any cake bakers that opperate out of their home or any that can do a cheap cake? I'd like to keep it around $3.00 per serving.

Also I think I need to find a hair salon for updos. Anyone have any recommendations on any AFFORDABLE ones? I looked at a bunch and all their prices are $70 /> and I just think that's too much to ask the girls and moms to pay. I'm thinking in the $40-50 range. We can do our own makeup.

Everything else I think I'm doing well will...hopefully lol.

I went to culinary school at AB Tech in Asheville and they have a pretty good baking program. You could always email the head of the department (Chef Donatelli, unless he's left since I attended) and ask him if any second year students would be interested in doing the cake for cheap. I guarantee that a few students would love that extra cash, even if it's only $50.

I'm getting married in Asheville in May and we are using Icing on the Cake for our wedding cake.  She is very affordable and runs the business out of her home.  Her cakes are beautiful looking too!

For salons, I am using Suraj Salon and Spa.  For attendants and mom's an updo is about $50 for a half-updo and $55 for a full updo if it is in salon (I think those prices are right...I'd have to double check).  The salon is beautiful looking from what I can tell from the pics and great for bigger groups so that's why I don't mind going to them.  They will do makeup for attendants and moms for $35 per person which is by far the best price.  The owner is fantastic to work with and is fast with her responses.  Thus far I've been really impressed.  I haven't done my trial run yet because I am out of town.  Also, the just require a credit card to reserve the appointments...not a deposit which is nice.

I haven't gotten to cake yet, but my photographer recommended City Bakery www.citybakery.net Looks like they start at $3.50 slice, which is a lot better than some I looked into.
My venue recommended the following on their vendor list:
