Cake tasting REVIEW

While I was in Vegas last week for my friend's bachelorette party, I also did a cake tasting for my wedding in August. I only had time to go to Las Veas Custom Cakes, although I really wanted to try Creations Bakery. There were some complaints on this board about Creations Bakery taking a long time to respond to emails but I got responses immediately from them.

Las Vegas Custom Cakes - A
I met with Christina last Saturday to discuss my wedding cake and she was so nice and patient. She even went online to look at designs with me because I couldn't describe the exact design I wanted. Once we found the design, she drew a really good sketch of it and added some personal touches, like our initals on the middle tier. I know most people have gone there and met with Yamilet but she was in the back baking because they were very busy that day. The owner of LVCC brought out 3 cake samples for us to try:

White cake with cream cheese mousse and pineapple - very good and moist.

Lemon cake with whipped cream and fresh raspberries - I am not a fan of anything lemon, but the in between layer of whipped cream and raspberries was delicious!

Cake soaked in expresso I think? - didn't try this one since I don't like coffee flavor but my friends tried it and said it was really good.

I wanted to try some other flavors so the owner/baker brought out 2 more flavors.

Red velvet with cream cheese filling - The red velvet was very light. I like a stronger flavor but it was still good.

There was a 5th flavor but I was too full to try it. I just tasted the icing. I wanted butter creme icing and they had 3 different kinds - white butter creme, chocolate butter creme and italian meringue butter creme. I chose the white butter creme which was sweeter than the italian one. My friends preferred the italian creme because it was lighter and more buttery.

I placed my order with them for a 3 tiered square cake for 50 people. The total cost was $305. LVCC said it cost extra for square instead of circular cake and for fresh fruit. I still think that was a really good price

The 3 tiers willl be different flavors - red velvet with creme cheese mousse, yellow cake with white chocolate mousse and fresh raspberries, and white cake with the house mix (vanilla bavarian cream with raspberries, blackberries, kiwi, strawberries, mandarin oranges).

Hope this helps if your trying to decide on cake companies. I'm going to mail them pink ribbon to go around each layer so it matches the sash on my dress and I'm providing my own cake topper.

Yeah they had the 2nd best pricing out of the 6 bakers I went to!

I highly recommend the spice cake with cream cheese filling if anyone can't do a tasting!

    AJ,
my cake design is going to be white butter creme with black scroll designs all over it and the middle tier will also have our initials in the middle and then the black scrolls. The ribbon on each layer cost extra so they said to just go buy my own from Michaels or Jo Ann Fabrics and mail it to them, Also they said a cake topping will cost extra so i told them I'll bring my own which saved me money. I didn't include the delivery charge to Mandalay Bay which will cost $45 and they are going to deliver at 8:30pm, right before my reception starts.

How is your cake design? Did you get any specialty flavors?

I have a very simple quilted fondant design, and I chose a fruit filled tier which was an extra $17.....but I was still quoted $465!!!

AJ, the fondant probably made it cost more. Christina at LVCC said it was an extra $100 to add their fondant because they use a special white chocolate flavored fondant that tastes really good. She said it's better than other fondants.
