Dj's Vs. Band

My parents are insisting we hire a band instead of a DJ.  They say having a band is classier, Dj's are loud and obnoxious,

What are your takes?  If I have a band I want a specific type of music. 
From a DJ  I would like him to be less heard and more into playing our music.  I don;t want a lot of loud talking that irritates people.  If I wanted to hire an entertainer I would. I don't want some DJ who thinks he is the next super star.

So I guess my question is so any of you ladies know a DJ who can keep to himself most of the evening and does a spectacular job.  Or is a band the way to go?

I have not heard many DJ's be particularly verbal except when an event like cake cutting, first dance, grand entrance, etc., is being announced.  They tend to be the MC for the occasion if they are doing a good job.  Bands can be classy, depending on the music style.
