Name Changing Question

Married ladies, when you changed your name, how long did it take for everything to be finalized?

I'm going to a conference for work in California 3 weeks after I get back from my honeymoon. I need to book the flights now, but I don't know what name to use on the flight. I assume I can get all of my paperwork and new licence (ie use my new last name) before I have to go on the flight, but idk!

So, how long did it take you for most of your things to get switched to your new name?

Surprisingly a week at most. I was VERY shocked but I first fixed the SS card, (they give you a paper saying its in process, you take that to the DMV the NEXT day and then you apply for the new drivers liscense) I started the process on a Monday (ss Card), Tuesday DMV and everything was back to me that Saturday.

    HTH! :)

Ehhhh....I'd be scared to chance it! We're going on our honeymoon over 1 month after our wedding (because I'm a teacher and wanted to go during my summer break) and I was scared to chance it, so my plane tickets will be in my maiden name and I'll just change when we get back in June.  There's no big rush and I'd rather know for SURE that I'll be able to get on that plane - haha! Also, since I'm a teacher, I''m glad I'm keeping my name until the end of the school year so my students will not be thoroughly confused.  I'll start fresh next year! Glad to hear PP had a quick experience, though! I would just be worried that someone would drop the ball, something would get lost in the mail, etc etc.  Just my two cents :)

I agree with ashstwrt.  Better safe to wait than have the DMV or social security office screw up and then not be able to use your tickets.  When I moved to NC I had to go to the DMV four times to get my license because each time I went their system was down or something was wrong.  Pretty sure SS can be just as bad.  May go smoothly, but there's always a risk!

When does your current DL expire?
Here is the new thing...DMV MAILS you your new license that can take up to 1 month! YIKES! You will get 1/2 sheet of paper that doesn't have a pic only black and white text with your info and your suppose to use your current licese with that paper.  Its crazy dumb! but even if you start your process you can most likly still use your maiden name id to get on the plane..the dmv won't take it anymore!  because of the whole mail crap I'd stick to my maiden name for the tickets! Call the airlines and ask them; they can tell you what is acceptable and whats not.  I work at a bank and most people say that it takes 3 weeks some 1 month! Its horrible b/c we can't accept expired ids but the paper doesn't work b/c it doesn't have a pic!
my vote use your maiden name OR more importantly call the airlines

I got married on the 6th and still haven't gotten my SS card yet......You have to wait for the marriage license to be filed at the Deeds office before you can get a copy, and you have to have an official copy to start the process, so i would go on the side of caution just to be sure you don't have any travel problems.......TSA is not very easy to get along with in these situations!

Def wouldn't change it till  you return.... you're counting on the preacher filing it quickly, and having time to get to the ss office and dmv before you leave..... don't do it.... it's not a big deal to wait til you return to do it.

I was wondering the same thing.
ashstwrt~ thats exactly what we are doing.  Our wedding is on the 1st of May and we are flying out for our honeymoon on June 17th, the first day of summer break after the workdays.  My passport and flight tickets are in my current last name and we will change everything in July when we return.
