Wow. Horrible Experience Meeting w/Wedding Coordinator at Venetian

so FI and i went to LV this past weekend (with his parents) to look at ceremony / reception sites, etc. and we met with planners at a few places.  We were really excited to go to the Venetian because we really like the hotel and the prices were actually reasonable (comparatively!).  OMG - we had the most horrible experience.
I don't know if any of you have been to their office, but there are two desks and about four chairs.  There were four of us, so when our coordinator came to meet us, I assumed we'd be going elsewhere - especially since there was someone working at the other desk.  Nope.  Bad assumption.  We met right there.  And about halfway through our meeting, the other person starts making calls.  Now I understand if a call comes in, but she started MAKING calls.  I was shocked.
Then they told us that, while they could look at a room and see it's available, they have to request it - and that takes up to about a week to see if they can have it or not.  WTF?  Made me feel like they wanted to see if something better could come along.
The coordinator was also trying to upsell us on chairs - which are about 12 / each. (Umm...yeah, I'm not spending a lot of money on chairs)  And she couldn't tell us anything about pricing for centerpieces, because everything is custom.
Basically, as much as we love the place, and as reasonably priced as it is, we crossed it off our list.  My FI said that he thought the woman we spoke to was horrible and couldn't imagine me working with her.
Have any of you had similar experiences?

What room were you trying to go see?  A suite for a reception or ceremony room? I'm confused...,
Sorry you had such a poor expereince though!  Hopefully you will find another venue that has better customer service.

Shani at CP has been an angel to work with!

We had a similar experience, Venetian's WC's are next to useless.  We told them we needed a price for all day photographer coverage, she's like oh I don't know how much that would cost, no one ever does that.  We said well I guess we're unusual then, we need the price.  I'll have to call someone else to find out.  Okay here's the price.  Does that include photo CD?  Oh, I'll have to call to find out.  That will be $9000.  Are you kidding me?  If we rent a private ball room can we use our own photographer instead?  I'll have to call to find out.  If we use the standard chapel can we have the ceremony at one end so we can use the room in a long format instead of short but wide?  I'll have to call and find out but that person is not here today.

Nearly every question we asked was going to require someone else to answer it, so either we're highly unusual in our demands or they just have no idea what they're doing.

We had a horrible experience too. We are having a wedding with about 150 people and we wanted the full ballroom and everything. They could not have been less interested. They would not even show us a space and the space was actually in the convention center, which is not pretty! I think there is reason no one really uses them on the board.

Are you set on having your ceremony and recpetion on the strip in a hotel/ casino? I would suggest looking off-strip!! You can always have an after-party at a suite if you want the Vegas-feel!

If you're looking for a ballroom reception, Mandalay Bay catering has been pretty helpful thus far-- maybe give them a try?

That's just for the digital rights to the images; the total price of 8 hours of photographer coverage and digital rights was somewhere in the $12k range.  This is due to Venetian forcing you to use Cashman who gives them, and many other strip resorts, kick backs in return for exclusive access.  The one big difference is that Venetian policy, we learned, is that you're not allowed to have a non-Cashman professional photographer on the grounds of any Venetian-owned property.  They of course do not enforce that policy too well, but it remains a possibility which made us decide against even considering them for a private ball room since technically we'd be breaking the rules by having our own photog even in a private room and just didn't want to risk any issues.

Yep, we saw that too, it's ugly.  The same issue occurs at Caesars; private ball rooms for large receptions will be in the convention center which is quite a trek from the chapel.

Bellagio has some pretty nice looking private ball rooms, including the one that overlooks the pool area and has a balcony.

We didn't even go see the rooms.  After the experience with the WP - we just had no interest in holding our wedding there.

We've looked at Mandalay and Caesars and it's really down to between the two at this point....

We were turned off to Venetian before we even got there, we were just trying to set up a time to meet and tour when we were in town, and they were ridiculous on the phone.  Couldn't get a hold of them for days, then they finally called us and tried to seel us on getting married THAT DAY. Totally didn't listen to a word we said. So we ruled them out.

When I first got engaged and started looking at hotels the Venetian was the one I had chosen, then I tried getting hold of them. After numerous attempts by e-mail and phone to try and talk to a wedding coordinator I finally gave up and went with Mandalay Bay. Every time I called I was told the same thing by the woman answering the phone "let me get your number and a coordinator will call you by this afternoon" and not once did I ever get a call back.

I am getting married at MB in the SIlver room.  We walked in and asked to see the rooms and a coordinator and they were kind and nice and helped us out. FI liked the MB chapel better that MGM.  I am really happy with my MB wedding and WC.  I haven't done a  lot of coordinating yet but so far so good.
Until the first full year of being one! Anniversary

I was surprised when you said the Venetian's prices were reasonable - you obviously didn't ask them about photography costs, haha!

Sorry you had a crap experience, but consider it a lucky escape...!

I called to get info on their ceremony sites and she's like did you go to the website? Very poor customer service and was very turned off by that. I crossed it off my list and proceeded to do more research.

WTF!!!!! I could get a brand new small car for that!

@vegasgroom, you are right the bellagio did have some really nice ballrooms and they comped our lunch.

Slight difference from the Venetian. We are actually at the Four Seasons. Smaller hotel over all so we are the only big party of the night. That was a huge plus. And... best part... they have NO required vendors of any kind. You can use any photographer, florist etc. So far they have been awesome. Just about 1 month to go for us!

PS, the knot does not recognize the word bellagio, it wanted to change it to fellatio. hmmmm

If you want a reception at the Venetian, I would definitely check out Grand Lux Cafe, they have fantastic food, prices are reasonable, I want to say $40 pp, and Rich is great to work with. He was so nice when I met him during my scouting trip, comped my meal etc. Good luck!
