rsvp dilema

I am in the middle of making my response cards and trying to figure out an rsvp date.

Here's the thing:
My wedding date in Jan 28, 2012. In my contract I noticed my venue wants final head count and finalized meal choices by Dec. 19, 2011.

So can I make the rsvp date Dec. 12th? About 6.5 weeks prior?

Wow, that seems crazy early for a head count. Any chance of asking your venue to push it back a little? Otherwise, that deadline will have to do sine it gives you a week to contact those that didn't reply.

I thought the standard was 10-14 days prior to the event (for an official head count) - definitely talk to your WC about moving that head count date to Jan. 14th.

Never fear, CamilleJon.  I set my RSVP date as August 8, had the cards printed at the end of June.  Didn't sent them out until the end of July, about 2 weeks before the RSVP date (hey, I'm a busy girl! lol).  Luckily for me the RSVP's are rolling in by the mailbox full on a daily basis. The good thing with DW's is that usually you have a pretty good idea of who is coming ahead of time-I think we are only getting maybe one surprise guest that we didnt expect would be able to make it.

That does seem like way early for the final head count; Mix said they only needed one week's notice for numbers that needed to be accurate within ten people and I could let them know the night before for the final count just so they could get the chairs right for the ceremony.

That seems very early to have to give a final head count and meal choices. I would call, maybe it's a type-o and supposed to be Jan 19th? Our estimated final payment is due 1 month before hand, but out final numbers aren't due until something like 2 weeks before.

My RSVP was 5 weeks before the wedding date because our final numbers were due this PAST week to the venue.

I still had to call quite a few lame-os who didn't respond.  Is she on vacay between Christmas and NY and needs to get all numbers in prior?  I'm working on a project plan for a project and have the same dilemma.  Our client's december ends 12/23 so we need to be done by then.

It's in the contract as December 19th, but maybe they did mean January 19th?

Otherwise, Smokey, I bet it does have something to do with the holidays.

I guess I'll email my WC and see what the deal is...

My venue needed my numbers 30 days out.  If yours is the same way, they are probably backing it up to the week before Christmas.  Just ask for some leeway because that is still really far out for some people.

Our wedding is January 28 as well and we set the RSVP date for December 12.  We decided to set it way before the actual Christmas holiday so we could actually enjoy it instead of having to track down folks.

I think having an RSVP date of 6 months out for a destination wedding is fine-- if the majority of your guests are from Milwaukee, they should know at that point whether they'll be able to make it (and ideally they will have already booked travel by then too).

My family is very spread out. Ony about 10% of our guests are flying out of Milwaukee. The rest are coming from all the country.

I think 6 months is very early... I usually don't book plane tickets, especially vegas, until about 2 months prior. We still don't have our plane tickets for the wedding.

Hooray for Jan 28!  That's a good idea, I figure most people will know if they are coming by Dec. anyway.

Well, it's a football-themed shindig (see: it's the weekend before the Superbowl and we have ticket invitations), so we are sending them out right before the start of the football season in September.  A bit early, but we are OCD planner-type people and keeping with the football schedule.

Our paperwork is due December 14 to MB, but we are doing online RSVP and will able to hunt down any folks who are not as OCD as we are in real time without depending on the postal service. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />

We are getting married this weekend, too, bc it is between playoffs and the Superbowl.  FI is from Green Bay, so he and all of his family an friends are DIE HARD Packer fans, so I wasn't allowed to let my wedding interfere with their football ;)
Most of my family could care less.

We are sending ours out in September, too, for no other reason except that they will be ready by then. Besides, I don't want my invites to be lost in a pile of x'mas cards.

HA!  Yeah, Fi is a DIE HARD Vikings fan and I am a HUGE college football fan.  We consider it blasphemy to our football religion have our wedding in the Fall during football season.  We chose ProBowl weekend because, honestly...we think it sucks.  I work for the State and must be in the office when the Legislature is in session, so that rules out February - June.  And we didn't want to get married in the summer.

We set that date almost a year before and we've been sweating out the NFL Lockout hoping they would not 1) cancel the season or 2) push it back and have real games that weekend.  Needless to say last Monday we went out to celebrate the validity of our impending marriage. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" />

No! I was worried they would switch the Superbowl to our weekend, I'm glad the lockout is over! I love drinking beer and watching footaball games on a Sunday afternoon :)

I bet your FI's friends are jealous he has a  women like you!
