The State Club

Hello again...I know I've seen a few girls that have had their reception there (just not sure who you are...yet!) and it (as of now) is the top of our list, however, we do not meet with them until next week.  So, in the meantime, I was curious of your thoughts and reviews?  Thanks!

I had my wedding at The State Club and it was amazing. I am so happy that we chose them for our reception.  They were excellent to work with and I can go on and on... I really loved how everything came together. I can give you more details, do you have any specific questions?  And yes, I would def. recommend them! My planning blog and bio have details from the planning process and pictures from the wedding if you're interested.

I also had my reception there & I was happy with them overall. We had a few kinks but we worked them out.  I would also be happy to answer any specific questions. My e-mail address is matthewsk1216 at gmail dot com.

thank you!  my main questions have to do with pricing - wendy sent me the initial price list with food, beverages, etc and that all looks fine.

but were there other fees - tables, linens, chairs, etc??  we are meeting with her next tuesday but i'd like to walk into the meeting prepared!  ha

and did you guys become members or did you have a friend that was one?

if you would prefer, my email is rebekahandnathan@gmail.com  thanks!!!!!

They have tables and chairs (the brown dining-like ones that they use for their events) that you can use for free.  They also have some linens, mostly black, white, red, and maybe another color, all plain fabric. We rented chairs and linens from CE Rental in Raleigh, they have a very large selection and lots of dif. options, price wise.

One thing that we initially overlooked was the difference between a room set up fee and the room rental fee.  The room rental fee is waived if you spend enough on food and bev, but the set up fee is basically the staff and Wendy's payment for setting up all of the details before the wedding and day of stuff.  Just make sure to ask what the fee will be, I think it can vary depending on your event.

I joined TSC as a TSC Pass member originally, but that just allows you to use the space, but doesn't let you qualify for the waived room fee. So, we upgraded to associate membership for a while, when we found that we would meet the minimum to get the fee waived. On this note, I really enjoyed eating at TSC and loved being a member.  We just recently discontinued it though, because we haven't had time to eat there as regularly.

mind sharing about how much the set-up fee was?  doesn't have to be exact - just like $500 or $5,000??  ha  just so we can get an idea...

like i said, email if you feel more comfortable.  thanks!

We went over to the State Club and the "setup fee" really threw me off.  She told me that it would be anywhere from $750-1500, depending on if you had both the reception and the cermony there.  I felt like it was a fee that should have been spelled out during the discussion I was having with the ladies prior to going out to see it.

I thought the venue was gorgeous and we are still thinking of using it.  However, the chairs, IMO, are pretty ugly!  They are big, heavy, and brown, and definitely not the look I want!  Now, some people may think they are perfect, but I would want to rent different chairs or at least chair covers.  I also didn't like the "beverage" charges.  I want somewhere with an open bar, and they charge on consumption.  I'm pretty sure the only linen choices are red, black, and white, maybe beige too.  And for a larger wedding party, you have to place guests on the floor above (still can see everything thought) and if you are doing buffet, you have to have a seperate buffet setup upstairs.

They do have a cute little bridal suite upstairs if you are having the ceremony there too!  And the outdoor patio will be gorgeous for a ceremony :)

    Good Luck!

Thanks!  We have a meeting on Tuesday - so hopefully I will get all my questions answered.  I am not a fan of the chairs either - but most places have pretty horrid chairs, imo.  If it is in the budget, I may rent others - but if not, if someone complains...they can leave!  ha

We plan to do a sit down dinner so the buffet charge should not be an issue.  But thanks for the head's up :)
