We had our wedding two weeks ago at the Coonamessett. Here are the shorthand reviews. Ceremony/Reception: Coonamessett Inn. We had the ceremony and reception here. Could not have been happier about our selection. We had a small wedding, so we were in the Mermaid Room and got married on the patio there. Gorgeous spot for the ceremony. We'd worked with Jim leading up to the wedding and he was great about flexibility and accommodating us. Just a pleasure to work with. We had a tight budget, and even tho there was a wedding upstairs in the giant room at the same time, they didn't make us feel like we were also-rans. We really got our money's worth. Portions were huge, food was fabulous and I can't count how many guests told me this was the best wedding food they'd ever had. The staff was great to work with. The bartender and waitress who was assigned to me and the groom were super. Oh, and they even gave us a substantial refund cause they had overestimated the bar. Can not say enough good things about the Coonamessett Inn. Ceremony Musicians: Classique Chamber Music/Bonnie Harlow (Plympton MA). We asked my husband's niece to play cello during the ceremony and Bonnie is her instructor. My sister-in-law wanted Bonnie to be there that day to accompany the niece so she arranged for that. I had minimal interaction with Bonnie but she was nice the few times I did talk with her. Since I wasn't there for the pre-ceremony stuff and my head was in the clouds during the ceremony, so I can't speak to how the music was but my husband says it was lovely. Bonnie had played at the Coonamessett before so she knew the ropes there. Cake: Casual Gourmet. I knew what I wanted going into the tasting, but their offerings were fine. We went with a simple chocolate with buttercream frosting. The design was a little plainer than I had anticipated but that is probably more attributable to the design I chose vs the skills of the baker. They were all lovely to work with. Price was about $3.50 per person, so better than I expected. Band: Tokyo Tramps (Boston): They are a blues/rock band based in Bost.on and they are friends of ours, who played the wedding on our request. We were already biased cause we love them, but they were hands-down the best decision we made regarding the wedding. We were up dancing the whole time. Not sure if they want to be on the wedding circuit, they're not a wedding band per se, but if you want a quirky, great band, give them a listen. Everyone loved them and the Coonamessett staff thought they were great too. Think they even asked them for a business card. Flowers: Lawrence Gardens. We had a small-scale flower order, just two bouquets and bouts for the men, but Mary at Lawrence Gardens was great to work with and didn't make us feel like we were second-class citizens because we weren't spending thousands of dollars with her. She was friendly and open to ideas and had great suggestions regarding my desire for green hydrangeas. The bouquet did have more white in it than I had hoped, but ultimately, not a big deal. Wedding makeup and manicures: Headlines Salon and Day Spa. Headlines did very well by me. Shannon, the makeup artist, was great and affordable. She put me at ease and since I'm not a big makeup person, made me look natural. Great job. Two thumbs up. My MOH and I had manicures there the day before the wedding and Patti did my nails and it is the best manicure I've ever had. She wasn't as talkative as the woman my MOH went to, but she did a great job with my nails. Hair: Did myself. Photographer: Janet Picinich Photography (Belmont). Janet worked with us within the constraints of our budget. She has a great personality and showed up super early (she was concerned about being late because of bridge traffic) and didn't charge us extra for that. We haven't seen any photos yet but should have those in a few days. We contracted with her for 3 hours and her rate was very reasonable and she was flexible about timing etc. Rehearsal Dinner: Flying Bridge. We had our RD at the Bridge, which is a sister restaurant to the Coonamessett. We always loved the Bridge so it was a no-brainer to have something there. It was a small party, just 11 of us, so we just got a table in the back room and ordered off the menu. The food is always great there. The waiter, Norman, was great and it was all well within our tight budget.
